AAPA, USDOT to Commemorate NM Day Jointly
A little-known annual American commemoration is coming up again on May 22 - National Maritime Day. It was declared by Congress in 1933 to call attention to America’s proud maritime heritage and to honor the men and women who serve and have served as U.S. merchant mariners. It’s also a day to recognize and reflect on the rewards that America’s ports bring the country in terms of jobs, economic development, goods movement and international competitiveness. For the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA)—the unified and recognized voice of seaports in the Americas—National Maritime Day offers the nation’s ports a great opportunity to showcase the value of their facilities, operations and personnel to their respective communities.

Crowley Receives Vincent T. Hirsch Maritime Award
Tom Crowley, Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime Corporation, was awarded the Vincent T. Hirsch Maritime Award for outstanding leadership from the U.S. Navy League Friday. Rear Admiral Mark H. U.S. Navy Opposes Repeal of Jones Act
The news that the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Navy League support the Jones Act and oppose its repeal was applauded by Maritime Cabotage Task Force (MCTF), the national coalition representing the U.S.-flag fleet engaged in domestic waterborne commerce. Both organizations dedicated to the defense of the United States have reaffirmed their support for the law, which is directly responsible for half a million U.S. jobs and vital to national security. Moosally Named President Fincantieri Marine
Fred P. Moosally has taken office on February 8th, 2010 as President and Chief Executive Officer of Fincantieri Marine Group (FMG), a subsidiary of Fincantieri-Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A. Moosally, who will report directly to Alberto Maestrini, Fincantieri Executive Senior Vice President of Naval Vessels Business Unit, will be responsible for all Fincantieri Naval Vessels Business Unit activities in the United States. His headquarters will be located in the Washington, D.C. area.
Admiral Kramek Named President-Elect of SNAME
The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) named Robert E. Kramek president elect of the organization at its recent Annual Maritime Technology Conference & Expo in Houston, Texas. Kramek, President and Chief Operating Officer of ABS will commence his term January 1, 2007, succeeding current SNAME President Dr. Roger H. Compton. Admiral Kramek is a former Commandant of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from which he retired as a Four Star Admiral. Admiral Robert E. Kramek graduated with honors from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Academy with a B.S. in engineering in 1961 and attended postgraduate schools at the University of Michigan, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Alaska.
