Master Boat Builders Delivers New Tug to Bay Houston Towing

Coden, Ala. shipbuilder Master Boat Builders has delivered the new tug Hayden Grace to Bay Houston Towing Co. for operations in Galveston, Texas.The new 85-foot-long vessel is the first in a series of three RApport 2600 tug designed by Canadian firm Robert Allan Ltd. ordered by Bay Houston Towing. The design team and the client worked to address operational challenges the vessel would face. Senesco Delivers New Tug for Reinauer

North Kingstown, R.I. shipbuilder Senesco Marine has built and delivered another EPA Tier 4 compliant tug, Janice Ann Reinauer, to Reinauer Transportation. Upon delivery, the tug went directly to work transporting product on the U.S East and Gulf Coasts.The 4,200-horsepower vessel was designed by Ocean Tug & Barge in close cooperation with The Reinauer operations team and is the 13th tug Senesco has built for Reinauer. Best Workboats of 2017

Marine News showcases the best of North America’s 2017 workboat deliveries. There is something for everyone. Notwithstanding the lingering offshore energy downturn, there were plenty of bright spots for North American shipyards in 2017. If a hull was delivered in 2017, we took a look at it, with several areas as a focus for inclusion into this edition. For starters, it is always exciting when a domestic yard delivers a vessel – or multiple vessels, for that matter – to foreign buyers. We can compete in a foreign arena; on price, quality and on-time delivery. This year was no different. No less important is the environmental footprint of a vessel, and there was plenty to report on from that angle in the past 12 months. The domestic waterfront is indeed getting greener and cleaner.

Rigid inflatable boat (RIB) manufacturer RIBCRAFT has introduced the newest and largest model in its  model line, the 41’ RIBCRAFT 12.5, with the recent delivery of a specialized USCG Sub Chapter T Certified tour boat to a customer in New England. RIBCRAFT Delivers Two Tour Boats

Rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) manufacturer RIBCRAFT announced the recent deliveries of two USCG Sub Chapter T Certified Tour Boats to customers in Hawaii and Florida. The two certified 30’ RIBCRAFT 9.0s – one to the Four Seasons Hualalai Resort in Hawaii and one to Aqua Adventure Tours in Florida – were built to meet the unique needs of each company. The vessels feature a combination of jockey-style pod seats and benches for accommodating up to 15 guests on eco and adventure tours.

Harvey Gulf ATB Earns ABS, USCG Approvals

Geo Shipyard Delivers Catamaran Survey Vessel

Geo Shipyard, Inc. has built and delivered a new Survey Catamaran Vessel, Blake, for David Evans and Associates Inc.’s Marine Services Division in Gulfport, Mississippi. The newbuild, delivered in October, features wave-piercing bows, Tier 3 Cat diesels, twin 55-kW generators, a full suite of survey instrumentation, an A frame for towing astern, a DTI survey winch and a stainless steel hydraulically operated survey strut with a moon pool and hydraulically operated door through the wing deck to lower the strut for side scanning. There’s also a bow crane for side scanning in shallow water.

Bouchard Opts for Articulated Tug Barge

ST Engineering’s U.S. shipyard, VT Halter Marine, Inc. (VT Halter Marine) announced that Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc. (Bouchard) has exercised its option for an additional Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) unit that was announced on February 15, 2013. The value of this ATB unit is in the region of $100 million. Both barges will measure 625 x 91 x 47 feet and each will have a 250,000-barrel capacity. They will be used to transport liquid petroleum. The barges will be American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and United States Coast Guard (USCG) certified for Jones Act service. The 10,000hp twin screw ATB tug, classed by ABS as XA1 Towing Vessel, Dual Mode, USCG Sub-chapter M, will be equipped with an Interconnected Coupler System.

Almar by North River Boats Inc. of Roseburg, Ore. 1.)  This is the fourth boat in a series of five 33-ft X 10-ft Sounder Pilot House built for Hydrographic Survey use. This boat is powered by twin Yanmar 315 hp diesel engines and Hamilton 241 water jets with a top speed of over 31 knots and a fuel capacity of 200 gallons. The pilot house is equipped with two Coleman Seamach air conditioning units, a stand up head with electric toilet and wash basin for the comfort of the crew. The vessel is also equipped with a Ray Marine RAY 430 Hailer, Motorola Pro 5100 VHF radio, Motorola Pro 5100 UHF radio, Furuno FA150 AIS system, Ritchie Voyager D84 compass, and L.E.D. Blount Barker Signs Contract For South Ferry Vessel

Blount Barker Shipbuilding signed a contract with South Ferry of Shelter Island, N.Y. to build a 101-ft. double-ended ferryboat. The vessel designed by South Ferry and Dejong & Lebet, Inc. is being built to service the half-mile crossing of partially protected inland waters between Shelter Island and the South Fork of Long Island. The 101' x 39’ x 10’-5” ferryboat designed with one open deck and one side island for crew and passengers will be built to USCG Sub Chapter ‘T’ Rules and Regulations for 149 passengers. The ferryboat is scheduled for delivery in June 2002. The all-welded steel ferry to operate on protected inland waters will be powered by two 400hp Detroit Diesel Series, Six Cylinder DDEC Main Propulsion Engines with Twin Disc MG-516 gears (4.5:1).

Blount Barker Delivers South Ferry Vessel

The 101-ft. double-ended ferryboat, Sunrise, was delivered to South Ferry, Shelter Island, Long Island on July 30th. The vessel began servicing the half-mile crossing of partially protected inland waters between Shelter Island and the South Fork of Long Island on Friday, August 2nd. The 101’ x 39’ x 10’-5” ferryboat designed by Dejong & Lebet, Inc. was built to USCG Sub Chapter “T” Rules and Regulations for 150 passengers. The vessel is a traditional car ferry with one open auto deck and enclosed aluminum side cabin with pilothouse. The Sunrise can carry a maximum of 50 cars or 4 semi-tractor trailers with a maximum load of 240,000 pounds.

BHMD Introduces Latest Design

Bristol Harbor Marine Design (BHMD) introduced their newest design, the Liberty 129TM fast ferry, at the International Workboat Show held in New Orleans in December. From the keel up, Liberty 129TM is an all-American design. It is 129-ft. (39.3-m) in length, has a 36-ft. (11.0-m) beam and includes interior seating for 321 passengers. powered by either twin or quad diesel powered water jets. It is designed for high-speed commuter ferry runs. BHMD has wrapped up all but a few minor details for this new design. It is ready for licensing and production. at the Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory at the University of Michigan (U of M) confirmed vessel design speed in excess of 32 knots. modeling has optimized the final designs for ease of production.

When MR/EN traveled up to the New England coast this past fall as part of a New England shipyard swing, we were expecting to meet the great one himself — Luther H. Blount — who could be informally known as the "father" of New England shipbuilding. Blount began his career so many years ago with the construction of a 77-ft. steel catamaran, was the first of many greater and more technologically innovative vessels that would later earn the designation as Blount crafted.
