USMMA Superintendent to Step Down

Superintendent of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Vice Adm. Jack Buono announced his retirement after a maritime career that has spanned more than 45 years.Vice Adm. Buono, a 1978 Kings Point graduate, has spent the past three and a half years at the Academy helm, and will relinquish command at a ceremony in June 2022. His successor has not been announced.“For Ginger and I, serving as the Superintendent and First Lady of the Academy has been the honor of a lifetime,” Buono said. “The young women and men who come here are truly the best and brightest America has to offer.

Crowley CEO Tom Crowley Honored for Contributions to the USMMA

Crowley Maritime Corp. President, Chairman and CEO Tom Crowley became an honorary alumnus of the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) during a banquet recently held in his honor. The USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation, along with its affiliated Jacksonville Chapter, recognized Crowley for his years of unstinting support of the academy and its cadets in front of more than 130 guests, including past and present Crowley employees and USMMA graduates, at the University Club in Jacksonville, Fla.

USMMA Golf Fundraisers Set 2013 Competition Dates

The Heidmar Blue & Gray Golf Classics are fundraisers for the U.S Merchant Marine Academy and its Department of Athletics. The tour nets over $400,000 annually and is attended by USMMA alumni, parents, friends and members of the international maritime community. In 2012, the tour saw 1,274 golfers which is the third-highest total of all time. Final 2012 proceeds are predicted to be near record numbers as the tour continues to grow in scope and size. The tour will stop in 11 cities next year and attract over 1,200 golfers nationally.
