Envirocleanse to Install BWTS on CMB Vessel

Ballast water treatment system (BWTS) manufacturer Envirocleanse said it recently signed an Agreement with CMB/Bocimar to install the patented inTank BWTS aboard the Capesize bulk carrier, Mineral New York. The initial installation will be designed as a pilot study to reflect much of CMB's fleet and will include the treatment of a cargo hold being used in part as a ballast tank. Envirocleanse is currently undergoing both land-based and shipboard testing aboard the USTS Golden Bear with DNV-GL as the independent laboratory.

Crowley Awards Scholarships to Four Mass. Maritime Students

Four students from Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) have been awarded Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships. Chosen based on their academic achievement, financial need and plans to pursue a career in the maritime industry, the four recipients are Patrick Goldsmith, Jack McMurrer, Paige Mentuck and Christina Murphy. Goldsmith, a junior from Huntington, N.Y., is majoring in marine engineering and minoring in international maritime business. He is a Dean’s List member and has earned his USCG 50 Ton Master license with a towing endorsement.

Crowley Scholarship for Three Texas A&M Students

Crowley Maritime Corporation’s 2016 Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships are helping to further educational opportunities for three students of Texas A&M University, all of whom are enrolled in the college’s License Option program and have expressed an interest in pursuing a career in the towing or petroleum shipping industry after graduation. The three recipients, each of whom have either sailed with Crowley or are scheduled to do so, were chosen based on their demonstrated leadership skills and financial need. The awardees are Texas natives Bradley Schein from Houston and Baylor Nix from Austin along with Benjamin Miner from San Martin, Calif.

Radio Holland Installs NavCom Equipment on US Training Ship

Radio Holland, part of the newly formed company RH Marine Group, has recently completed the installation of new radar and ECDIS equipment on the bridge of TS Golden Bear, the training ship of the California Maritime Academy. Radio Holland was awarded an initial contract from The United States Maritime Administration (MARAD) in March for replacing the gyroscopes and gyrocompass repeaters. Radio Holland then successfully tendered for a second MARAD contract for the radars and ECDIS in June.

Crowley Maritime Corporation’s 2014 Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships have helped to further educational opportunities for three students of State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College. The recipients, who each sailed with Crowley during their studies, were chosen based on their excellent grades, demonstrated financial need and plans to pursue a career in the towing or petroleum shipping industries after graduation. “SUNY is a great resource for professional, qualified mariners,” said Crowley’s Jenny Terpenning, recruiter, marine personnel.

HHI Orders MHI-MME Ultra Steam Turbine Plants for LNG Carriers

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Engine Co., Ltd. (MHI-MME), a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), has received orders from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) of Korea for four Ultra Steam Turbine (UST) plants to be installed in four LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers HHI is to construct for Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), the state-owned oil and gas provider in Malaysia. The orders, which were received with an option on additional USTs for four more carriers, marks the first time the MHI group has sold USTs outside Japan.
