Turkish Shipowners BWT Group Chooses Alfa Laval
Turkish Shipowners Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) Group has signed a fleet agreement for Alfa Laval PureBallast 3 systems, valued at approximately $22 million. Alfa Laval’s comprehensive offering in ballast water treatment, especially when it comes to service, was a key factor for the group.At the signing ceremony in Istanbul on July 4th, 2019, the around 50 members of the Turkish Shipowners BWT Group confirmed the decision to install PureBallast 3 systems on the group’s vessels.
Alfa Laval Wins USCG type Approval for Largest BWTS
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) presented a type approval certificate for the largest PureBallast 3 reactor size: 1500 m3/h, on 15 May.Customers can now select any PureBallast 3 system configuration for use in United States waters, said a press release.Launched in late 2018, the 1500 m3/h reactor for PureBallast 3 is optimized for 50% more flow than the former largest reactor size. Environmental Regs Drive Work for Gibdock

GEA UV Ballast Water Treatment
Earlier this year GEA won the first contract for equipping cruise liners with its UV ballast water treatment system, BallastMaster marineX, powered by Trojan Marinex. The contract is to equip two new vessels with one BallastMaster marineX each, as well as an option for equipping a third. The IMO-certified system, with a throughput capacity of 500 cu. m./hr., features two-phase operation with mechanical pre-filtration and subsequent disinfection of the ballast water by UV treatment.
BIO-UV, is now Type-Approved
BIO-UV went beyond the International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements for Ballast Water Treatment (BWTS). Indeed both requirements were met: the land tests where various and numerous filtration cycles were required, as well as the on-board testing for 2 different vessels (one on board the CMA-CGM with 1000 m3/h, the other on board the Marfret with 500 m3/h). Moreover, the tests that took place during the summer of 2012 at the MERC in Balitimore, MD, USA offered many different challenges representing various port water qualities allowing us to further our knowledge.
