Fincantieri Wins $111Mn ITER Contract

Italian shipbuilding company has been awarded an order worth almost 100 million euros (about 111 million U.S. dollars) to provide high-profile equipment as part of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project to build a nuclear fusion reactor.The ITER Project is a multinational collaboration aimed at building an experimental hydrogen fusion reactor, first of its kind, and acknowledged as one of the most ambitious initiatives in the world in the field of sustainable energy.A temporary consortium has been established for the execution of these activities. Tech File: BoomVane - A Powerful Boom Deployment System

The BoomVane is one of the most useful and interesting tools available to oil spill responders for shoreline and single vessel boom deployment. Maintaining an effective oil containment boom configuration with two vessels is difficult to coordinate. The Elastec BoomVane solves that problem. BoomVane can also tow heavier booms greater distances than an outrigger arm resulting in wider sweep swaths. Illinois-based Elastec is the manufacturer and owner of the proprietary BoomVane technology. Elastec offers four BoomVane sizes to accommodate various water depths.

ACO Marine, a supplier of advanced wastewater treatment systems, is about to introduce a new version of its established Maripur wastewater treatment range. The next generation ACO Maripur NF sewage treatment system has been specifically developed to ensure operators of specialist tonnage in the passenger and mega-yacht sectors comply with the impending IMO Resolution MEPC 227(64) ā€“ including Section 4.2. This requires vessels with 12 or more passengers operating in IMO designated ā€˜Special Areasā€™ to effectively treat also Phosphorous and Total Nitrogens.

UK Docks Expand to Whitehaven Marina

Whitehaven Marina Ltd. welcomed UK Docks Marine Services on-site as a new service provider as the marine engineering firm expand their existing Tyneside, South Shields and Gosport, Hampshire operations. UK Docks have widened operations to the West Coast in order to service current contracts as well as develop operations within the growing wind farm industry. Platinum Yacht Repair, the yacht repair and maintenance arm of Dubai's Drydocks World & Maritime World, say they have converted the landing craft Al Hail 1, belonging to Dubai-based M/S Royal Yachts from naval to civilan use as floating yacht repair and maintenance facility. Sureclean Makes £2 Million Equipment Investment

Sureclean operatives demonstrating vacuum transfer technology

International industrial cleaning contractor Sureclean announced it has invested £2 million in equipment during 2013, increasing its fleet by around 10% which has allowed the company to expand its global service offering. Evac was selected for the first series of ten 160,0000 dwt Suezmax tankers and for the series of five 110,000 dwt Aframax tankers, also being built by Atlântico Sul Shipyard, the largest and most modern shipyard in Brazil. Vessels: NCL Debuts Newest Star with NYC Flair

New York City rolled out the red carpet to welcome Norwegian Cruise Line's (NCL) latest addition to its fleet. In December, NCL debuted the 92,250-ton Norwegian Dawn, with NYC style reminiscent of the ship's new homeport. The christening ceremony aptly included a celebration amidst a few celebrities, a taste of Broadway and entertainment that truly characterize the Big Apple. "Size does matter," said actress Kim Cattrall, who was chosen to serve as the Norwegian Dawn's godmother. The 'Sex and the City' star entertained the crowd at the christening ceremony during the official naming of the ship and pronounced the Norwegian Dawn the biggest ship in NYC.
