China Ore Exports Slump – Vale Giant Carriers Idle

Bulk iron ore carriers, Vale China & Vale Brasil in Subic Bay, Philippines, await  orders Vale SA, the biggest producer of iron ore, idled two of the world’s largest carriers of the commodity for as long as a month and delayed taking delivery of two new vessels after Brazilian cargoes to China slumped, according to a recent Bloomberg report authored by Michelle Wiese Brockman. Vale China and Vale Brasil, both able to carry 400,000 metric tons, stayed at Subic Bay where they unloaded, according to vessel tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. A spokeswoman for Vale in Rio declined to comment, in an e-mailed response to questions, asking not to be named in line with company policy.

Nor-shipping More Popular Than Ever

Nor-Shipping 2011 was more popular than ever with a record 16,235 visitors coming to the exhibition venue, an increase of 4 percent from the previous event two years earlier and the largest turnout since Nor-Shipping began in 1965. A total of 17,298 exhibitor delegates from 54 countries participated in the four-day event, which closed on May 27. In addition to the 16,235 visitors, this resulted in a total turnout of 33,533 delegates to the exhibition, which also featured 22 national pavilions and 5 “theme parks”.

Nor-Shipping Clean Ship, Next Generation Ship Awards

Nor-Shipping has released names of the winners of the 2011 Clean Ship and Next Generation Ship Awards. The winners were announced today at the Nor-Shipping Opening Conference on May 24, 2011. Brazil’s Vale SA Gets Biggest Ore Carrier

According to a report from Dow Jones, Brazilian iron ore miner Vale SA (VALE, VALE5.BR) said it took delivery of the world's biggest ore carrier, a 400,000 tons capacity vessel built in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (042660.SE). The new vessel, named Vale Brasil, is the first of seven ore carriers ordered by Vale from the South Korean shipyard.   (Source: Dow Jones)
