MATS, A New Uncrewed Platform for Offshore Wind

Survey, positioning and data management firm UTEC, part of the Acteon Group, is targeting the offshore wind survey and inspection market with a new uncrewed surface vessel (USV).Torsten Marten, lead surveyor, UTEC, outlined the new design at the Marine Autonomous Technology Showcase (MATS), at the National Oceanography Center (NOC) in Southampton, UK, early November.It’s a 12m-long, “DP equivalent” catamaran design, developed to offer a stable platform for survey and inspection operations…

'Valeport in Action' Contest Winners Announced

Bringing home the prize for Valeport’s first product in action competition were an image of a Weddell Seal in the Antarctica carrying a Valeport CTD sensor and a hands-on video showing the pilot deployment of a Valeport Midas directional wave recorder at the mouth of the U.K.’s Humber Estuary. U.K.-based Valeport, a designer and manufacturer instrumentation for the oceanographic, hydrographic and hydrometric communities, asked its customers to submit videos and photos of Valeport products in action for a chance to win an iPad Air 2 (video category) and iPad Mini 3 (picture category).

UK Ocean Technologies Expo Biggest Yet

Ocean Business 2013 at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton will welcome 300+ worldwide companies to its upcomeng show. One of the most exciting elements of the show is that visitors can actually see equipment in action and ‘test-drive’ products before they purchase. This year’s Ocean Business is running an unmissable programme of free training and demonstrations, running over 180 hours where leading companies will introduce new products, technologies and techniques.
