Keel Laid for Van Oord's Offshore Wind Turbine Installation Vessel Boreas

A keel laying ceremony was held Tuesday for the wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) Boreas, being built for the Dutch marine and offshore services firm Van Oord.The ceremony took place at the YCRO yard in Yantai, China.The Boreas will be able to operate on methanol and will be capable of installing wind turbines of up to 20 MW capacity. The vessel, ordered in October 2021, will be 175 meters long and be able to lift more than 3,000 tonnes.

Van Oord Books Eidesvik Offshore Vessel for Offshore Wind Trenching Support

Dutch marine services firm Van Oord has, via its offshore wind subsidiary Van Oord Offshore Wind,  awarded Eidesvik Offshore a five-year contract for its Subsea Viking multi-purpose support vessel.The contract, of an undisclosed value, will start in the first quarter of 2023, Norway-based offshore vessel owner Eidesvik Offshore said. Wärtsilä to Supply Methanol-fueled Engines for Van Oord's Offshore Wind Installation Vessel

Five Wärtsilä 32 engines capable of operating with methanol will power a new Offshore Wind Installation Vessel (WIV) being built for Dutch contracting company Van Oord at Yantai CIMC Raffles shipyard in China, in what is the first such order for the Finland-based marine engine and equipment maker.Dutch marine and offshore services company Van Oord in October 2021 ordered the jack-up for offshore wind turbine installation. The vessel will be able to install next-generation wind turbines of up to 20MW.

Borssele III & IV: Giant Dutch Offshore Wind Farm Fully Commissioned

Borssele III & IV, one of the largest offshore wind farms in the Dutch sector of the North Sea, has reached full commissioning, Van Oord a partner in the Blauwwind consortium behind the 731.5 MW wind farm's development, said Thursday.Blauwwind is a consortium between Shell, Partners Group, Eneco, DGE and Van Oord.Located 22 kilometers off the Dutch coast and the Province of Zeeland, the wind farm is capable of powering 825,000 Dutch households with electricity. CrossWind Hires Van Oord for 759 MW Offshore Wind Farm Construction

Dutch offshore services giant Van Oord has won a construction contract for the Hollandse Kust (noord) offshore wind farm from CrossWind.The contract follows the announcement on Wednesday that CrossWind, a Shell-Eneco JV, had won a tender to develop the 759 MW subsidy-free offshore wind farm off the coast of the Netherlands.Van Oord’s activities will encompass the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of the foundations, inter-array cables and transportation and installation of the wind turbines.

TMA Logistics Wins SGRE Work

Dutch outfit TMA Logistics has been commissioned by Siemens Gamesa Renewables Energy (SGRE) to provide the transhipment and transhipment of wind turbines for Windpark Fryslân.Wind farm Fryslan comprises 89 wind turbines that will be realised in the Frisian part of the IJsselmeer, near Breezanddijk. The project is expected to start in August 2020 and the wind farm will supply electricity to ± 500,000 households.SGRE is carrying out the project in close cooperation with Van Oord Offshore Wind BV. Van Oord is laying the foundations and laying the cables and monopiles. These monopiles will most likely also be delivered via the TMA terminal.All foundation piles are produced in Rostock, Germany, weigh 220,000 kilos each and are approximately 42 meters long.

Offshore Test of New Installation Technology Successful

The Carbon Trust and Fistuca, in conjunction with industry partners announced the successful completion of the offshore trial of the Fistuca BLUE 25M hammer as part of the Offshore Wind Accelerator BLUE PILOT project.The industry partners include E.ON, EDPR,  EnBW, Equinor, Ørsted, Shell, Sif, SSE, Van Oord, and Vattenfall. The offshore test was carried out on August 13, 2018, using Van Oord’s offshore heavy lift installation vessel, Svanen, off the coast of the Netherlands.The BLUE Hammer is an innovative, new hammer utilizing a large water tank to provide a more energetic, but quieter blow for offshore installation. It is designed to reduce underwater noise levels by up to 20 dB (SEL), and is predicted to reduce the fatigue damage during installation on the pile by up to 90 percent.

Stretching across oceans and continents, approximately 32,000 km of new pipelines are constructed each year forming an industry worth $28 billion. Van Oord Develops Deep Dredging Solution

Over the past few years, Van Oord has developed a new technique for dredging at great water depths. This Deep Excavation System (DES) is an innovative method to prepare a sea bottom profile for installing offshore pipelines. The system has been patented by Van Oord. Uneven sea beds are traditionally prepared for laying offshore pipelines by installing large volumes of rock. As an alternative to this Subsea Rock Installation (SRI) method, Van Oord has applied the Deep Excavation System in Australia and Norway. On these projects, excavating several thousand cubic metres of hard and soft soil made the installation of hundreds of thousand tonnes of rock unnecessary. Combining the excavating system and SRI can be a cost-effective solution for sea bed preparation.

Drying Cabinets Handy On Board Nexus

In 2014, Pronomar equipped Van Oord’s offshore cable laying vessel Nexus with three drying cabinets, each responsible for the drying of eight sets of workwear. Nexus, a 126-meter Damen Offshore Carrier (DOC) 8500 cable laying vessel was delivered to Van Oord in December and is currently being finalized at Damen Shiprepair at Vlissingen, where Van Oord is building and installing the additional cable laying equipment. Van Oord to Acquire Activities of Ballast Nedam Offshore

Van Oord has reached agreement on the acquisition of the activities of Ballast Nedam Offshore. The acquisition consists of the assets of Ballast Nedam Offshore, the dedicated EPCI staff (Engineering, Procurement, Contracting and Installation), heavy lift installation vessel Svanen and the Westermeerwind project (144 MW). The activities will be integrated into Van Oord’s Offshore Wind Projects business unit. The acquisition will strengthen Van Oord’s leading position in the offshore wind market for north west Europe. This acquisition is part of Van Oord’s strategy to expand its Offshore Wind Projects business unit. The demand for energy of the growing world population is rising constantly.

Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel Aeolus is operational

Van Oord is holding a two-day event along the Rotterdam Wilhelminakade quay to mark the entry into service of Aeolus, its first transport and installation vessel for the construction of offshore wind farms. Today, business relations have the opportunity to inspect the vessel. On Saturday 21 June, Mrs K. Aboutaleb-Erahoutan, wife of the Mayor of Rotterdam, will be naming the vessel in the presence of guests and Van Oord staff. The vessel was built at Sietas, a German shipbuilding yard in Hamburg. The innovative and advanced transport and installation vessel has a length of 139 m, 38 m in the beam, a design draught of 5.7 m and a cruising speed of 12 knots. The vessel is equipped with a crane that can lift more than 900 tonnes and has accommodation facilities for 75 crew.

Offshore Wind Farm Contract for Van Oord

The wind farm will be built 23 km off the coast of Zandvoort, The Netherlands. The contract, which amounts to some EUR 250 million, is expected to be signed in the autumn of this year. The wind farm will consist of 43 Vestas V112 wind turbines. With 129 Mw power it will provide green energy to 135.000 households in 2015. The construction of Eneco Luchterduinen will start in July 2014. The wind farm will be operational in the second half of 2015. As EPC contractor Van Oord will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and installation of foundations, the complete electrical infrastructure including the offshore high voltage station and installation of the wind turbines. Aeolus, Van Oord's offshore wind turbine transport and installation vessel, will be deployed.

Turbine Transfers Increases Fleet

Turbine Transfers Ltd will increase its fleet to 20 vessels by the end of 2011. With the fast growing development of major offshore wind farms in Britain, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Denmark, Captain Mark Meade of Anglesey UK-based Holyhead Towing, has seen the potential for larger fleets of crew transfer vessels dedicated to the offshore wind farm industry. Often customers now require four or five boats at the larger and further offshore sites, and that demand cannot easily be supplied by the smaller companies in the field.

Offshore Energy 2011: Confidence in O&G

As energy demand is rising again, the year 2011 marks a turning point in the oil & gas industry with increased investments in the entire value chain. Offshore Energy in Amsterdam (11 & 12 October 2011), clearly reflects the confidence that governs the industry today. In four years time, the number of participants has quadrupled. For this year's edition, event organizer Navingo is considering an expansion of the hall to 10,000 sq.m. The original 8,000 sq. m. exhibition floor at Amsterdam RAI, which will host Offshore Energy 2011, has rapidly filled up. In no time at all, over 250 stands were sold - well over 80% of the expected number of stands.
