STX to Design Canadian Icebreaker

STX Canada Marine Awarded Contract to Design the Canadian Coast Guard’s New Polar Icebreaker. STX Canada Marine is pleased to announce that they have been awarded the contract to design the new polar icebreaker for the Canadian Coast Guard. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans announced today the award on behalf of the Government of Canada. The work will be carried out at STX Canada Marine’s Vancouver office and be completed by the end of 2013. The polar icebreaker will be named after former Prime Minister John George Diefenbaker (CCGS John G. Diefenbaker).

Huntingford, Davenport Join Capilano Maritime

Capilano Maritime Design Ltd., a naval architecture design firm based in North Vancouver, BC, Canada announced that John Huntingford has recently joined the firm as Senior Structural Designer. Huntingford gained experience in the maritime industry as an Outfit Designer for Kvaerner Masa Marine where he worked on design projects for the State of Maine and Alaska, as well as patrol vessels for Australia. He graduated from the Landing School of Boat Building and Yacht Design in Maine, USA and has most recently worked as a Designer and Technical Liaison for Vancouver Shipyards Ltd.

Wagner Joins Capilano Maritime Design

Capilano Maritime, a naval architecture design firm based in North Vancouver, BC, Canada, announced that Richard Wagner has recently joined the firm as Senior Mechanical Engineer. Richard gained early exposure to the maritime industry through his family’s prominent marine steering gear company. Richard graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1996 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has most recently worked in the Technical Department at Vancouver Shipyards Ltd. He was the lead mechanical designer of a 328 ft passenger ferry at Vancouver Shipyards Ltd.
