Van Oord to Acquire Activities of Ballast Nedam Offshore

Van Oord has reached agreement on the acquisition of the activities of Ballast Nedam Offshore. The acquisition consists of the assets of Ballast Nedam Offshore, the dedicated EPCI staff (Engineering, Procurement, Contracting and Installation), heavy lift installation vessel Svanen and the Westermeerwind project (144 MW). The activities will be integrated into Van Oord’s Offshore Wind Projects business unit. The acquisition will strengthen Van Oord’s leading position in the offshore wind market for north west Europe. This acquisition is part of Van Oord’s strategy to expand its Offshore Wind Projects business unit. The demand for energy of the growing world population is rising constantly.

Van Oord Orders Subsea Rock Installation Vessel

Van Oord has ordered a new subsea rock installation vessel. Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group Shanghai will build the vessel at its Ningbo yard in China. The vessel will be delivered in 2016. Subsea rock installation is a proven technique for the protection and stabilisation of offshore structures and pipelines, and is one of Van Oord’s main activities for its clients in the oil and gas industry. The vessel, which has a DP-3 (dynamic positioning) system, will be suitable for installation of a wide range of rock sizes through a fall pipe or a tremie pipe at the side of the vessel. With a deadweight of 14,000 tons, a length of 154 metres and a beam of 28 metres, the vessel can operate in water depths of more than 600 meters. There is accommodation on board for 60 people.

Van Oord Consortium Awarded Singapore Port Expansion

Van Oord has in consortium been awarded work associated with the expansion of the Singapore Tuas Mega Port development. Jurong Town Corporation awarded the reclamation project of Tuas Finger One to the consortium, comprising of Hyundai, Samsung, Penta Ocean, Van Oord and Boskalis. The total contract value is SGD 960 million and the combined Van Oord/Boskalis share is approximately EUR 100 million. It is expected that the majority of the 24.5 million cubic meters of sand required for this project will be supplied by long distance bulk carriers. In addition to the land reclamation work, the consortium will undertake dredging and construct 3.4 kilometers of quay wall. Van Oord Commissions Jack-Up for Offshore Wind Market

Sietas is to be the first German shipyard to develop and build a jack-up vessel used for offshore wind farm installation. The order, which was signed in Hamburg, comes from Dutch-based marine contractor Van Oord, working on dredging, offshore and marine engineering projects worldwide. In addition, Van Oord has placed an option for a second ship of the same type. No details have been released as to the purchase price. The time elapsing between development and delivery to Van Oord, in September 2012, of this innovative jack-up vessel will be just 21 months.
