ECOLOG Gains 'Industry-first' Approval from ABS

ABS Signs MoU to Develop Hydrogen-Fueled Passenger Vessel

Sanmar Shipyards Delivers First ABS-classed Battery Electric Tug to HaiSea Marine

Sanmar Shipyards delivered its first battery electric tug to ABS class for Canada-based HaiSea Marine, a joint venture partnership between the Haisla First Nation and Seaspan ULC.The HAISEA WAMIS harbor tug, the first in its ElectRA 2800SX series, will be part of a fleet of harbor and escort tugs providing services to LNG Canada’s future terminal in British Columbia and is equipped with two steerable, fixed pitch (FP), azimuthing, L-drive propulsion units powered by electric motors integrated on top of each unit.

ABS Conducts First Hellenic Technical Committee Meeting

ABS has hosted the inaugural meeting of the Hellenic Technical Committee (HTC) at its state-of-the-art Global Ship Systems Center (GSSC). “The Hellenic shipping community possesses a wealth of engineering knowledge and we are honored to assemble such a credentialed Technical Committee,” said ABS Europe Division Senior Vice President Vassilios Kroustallis. The HTC includes more than 20 key technical professionals across the maritime industry representing owners, operators and owner associations. Safety Boost with ABS Guidance for Developing Processes, Procedures

ABS has published the ABS Guidance Notes on the Development of Procedures and Technical Manuals, providing clients with best practice methodologies for developing instructional materials. “Input from ABS clients and maritime industry groups along with data gathered through the ABS Mariner Safety Research Initiative (MSRI) led to the recognition that this type of guidance was needed,” says Vassilios Kroustallis, ABS Senior Vice President, Eastern Europe. “Data from the MSRI found that more than 3,500 near misses and 200 reported injuries were related to procedures that were absent, misleading, confusing, wrong, or incomplete. ABS, provider of classification services to the global offshore industry, has delivered a series of seminar  addressing developments in the construction and design of liquefied gas carriers. Grove Appointed to Chief Technology Officer, ABS

ABS announced the appointment of Todd Grove to the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in a move that further underscores the strategic alignment of the classification society’s technology resources and Rule development initiatives with the operating divisions. Grove will report to ABS President and COO Christopher J. Wiernicki and be based in the society’s headquarters in Houston. Grove, a 28-year veteran of ABS, has served as President and COO of three ABS operating divisions – Europe, Pacific and Americas. He also has extensive experience in the offshore sector having served as Director, Energy Project Development and Manager, Offshore Engineering.
