A USV Franchise Grows Strong in Abu Dhabi

FuelCell Energy Wins US Navy UUV Contract

FuelCell Energy Inc. awarded US$3.8-million contract by U.S. Navy to develop power system for unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV). FuelCell Energy, Inc., a leading manufacturer of fuel cell power plants, announce a US$3.8-million contract award from the U.S. Navy to develop and test a Hybrid Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC)-Battery power system for large displacement undersea vehicle propulsion. The objective of the project is to develop a refuelable power system, with high energy density, that is suitable for undertaking long duration underwater missions of unmanned submersibles. The Hybrid SOFC-Battery system will be capable of generating 1,800 kilowatt hours of electricity during a 70 day mission with no exhaust discharged outside of the vehicle at any time.

Tognum Completes First Quarter as Expected

The specialist for propulsion and power solutions Tognum has completed the first three months of the current financial year in line with expectations and confirms its forecast for the full year. “Despite the modest quarterly revenues as expected, we managed to achieve an adjusted EBIT margin of 8.4%,” said Volker Heuer, chairman of the executive board of Tognum AG. The company continues to expect an adjusted EBIT margin (adjusted return on sales) of 6 to 9%, with revenues of €2.3 to 2.5 billion. In the medium term, Tognum intends to grow faster than the market and achieve a double-digit return on sales. “We are currently observing positive signs, primarily in our after sales business, in the oil and gas industry and in distributed energy systems,” Heuer added.

M Ship - Patent for M-Hull Technology

The European patent, titled “M-Shaped Boat Hull,” granted on Sept. 24, extends M Ship’s technology reach to , offering new military, commercial and recreational markets for the proprietary M-hull technology. Under the terms of the agreement with SPAWAR, M Ship and SPAWAR will share information as it relates to the development of M Ship’s proprietary M-hull technology for unmanned surface vehicle applications. The patented M-hull technology is available only from M Ship Co., LLC., through licensing or construction agreements. The technology or specific vessel designs may be purchased by government and military agencies from M Ship Co. under sole-source acquisition contracts.
