Complying with International Maritime Organization Resolution MSC.337(91) Noise Level CodeOne of the best things a marine operator can do for its crew or passengers is prioritize their comfort by reducing shipboard noise. Commercial and military marine vessels can be subject to very high noise levels produced by everything from onboard activities to aircraft. At worst, this noise can be hazardous—disruptively noisy environments can lead to discomfort, sleep-deprivation, and even hearing loss, which can in turn lead to lower job performance, safety risks, and diminished quality of life.

Pinnacle Products International Acquires Schaefer Ventilation Equipment

Ventilation and thermal comfort products manufacturer Schaefer Ventilation Equipment has been acquired by Pinnacle Products International, Inc., a developer, manufacturer, marketer and distributor of heating and ventilation equipment. With offices throughout North America and Asia, Pinnacle serves a diverse customer base in more than 25 countries, on every continent. Its brands include MASTER, Remington, Pro-Temp and Heat Stream. The merger will grant Schaefer’s dealer network access to Pinnacle’s and Schaefer’s expanding product offerings. Particularly outside of North America, the addition of new distribution in Europe, Asia and South America will speed the global market development strategies already underway for both Schaefer and Pinnacle.

Pilot Boat Uses Advanced Ventilation

Long Beach, California, is the second largest container vessel port in the United States. With rush periods now demanding bigger boats with more seating, Jacobsen Pilot Service needed a dependable, new craft to deliver up to eight pilots to incoming ships. They turned to Hike Metal, who supplied a 54 ft. welded aluminum pilot boat equipped with Delta "T" Systems ventilation equipment that provides peak engine performance. To keep the engine room free from damaging salt spray, Hike Metal outfitted the Long Beach Pilot Boat with Delta "T" Systems moisture eliminators. The company also installed axial fans to provide high airflow rates and lower relative sound pressure levels.
