Latest US Navy Contracts

The Department of Defense, has issued the following relevant Navy contracts. Teras BBC Ocean Navigation Enterprise Houston, LLC, Bellaire, Texas, is being awarded a $9,847,700 firm-fixed-price contract with reimbursable elements, for the worldwide charter of one U.S. flagged, self-sustaining, non-cellular containership. The containership will be employed in worldwide cargo delivery to support the U.S. Department of Defense. Work will be performed at sea worldwide and is expected to be completed by May 2014. The total cumulative face value of the contract is $47,281,490. Military Sealift Command, Washington, DC is the contracting activity.

New Navy Contracts

Vericor Power Systems, LLC, Alpharetta, Ga., is being awarded a $32,102,544 firm fixed price modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-08-C-4117) to exercise an option for the manufacture, testing and delivery of 24 ETF40B marine gas turbine engines for the Landing Craft - Air Cushion (LCAC) Service Life Extension Program fiscal year 2009 requirements. Work will be performed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and is expected to be completed by August 2010. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. Vericor Awarded $20.5m Navy Contract

Vericor Power Systems, LLC, Alpharetta, Ga., is being awarded a $20.5m firm-fixed-price contract for the manufacture, testing and delivery of 16 ETF40B marine gas turbine engines for the fiscal year 2008 (FY 2008) Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) requirements. This contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $57,779,224. Work will be performed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and is expected to be completed by Oct. 2009. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not competitively procured. The solicitation was posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website.

118-ft. Yacht Designed to Travel to 70 Knots

Three Vericor Power Systems' TF50 marine aeroderivative gas turbines have been selected to power the 118 Wallypower high-speed yacht being built by Intermarine Shipyard, Sarzana, Italy for Wally Yacht. This is Wally Yacht's first foray into high-speed power yachts, and the company's initial application of gas turbines. Wally Yacht, based in Monte Carlo, Monaco, is a world-renowned designer of high-speed sailing and power yachts. The 118-ft. yacht will feature three TF50 gas turbines in a Combined Diesel Or Gas (CODOG) turbine configuration. Two TF50s will be used as side or "wing" engines, with one small auxiliary diesel engine connected to each wing engine. The diesels will provide for very slow maneuvering only.

Corsaire 13000 Embodies Integrated, Advanced Propulsion System

The new 440-ft. (134-m) monohull high-speed ferry Corsaire 13000 will soon undergo speed trials at the French shipyard Alstom Leroux Naval, and the successful testing and subsequent operation of the advanced vessel will prove the value of the complete propulsion system supplied by MTU. The ship is planned to operate for the French SNCM (Societe Nationale Maritime Corse-Mediterranee) on the 189-n m. crossing from Marseille and the island Corsica at 42 knots. Vericor Supplies Kockums With Gas Turbines

Swedish Navy. The TF50s will replace existing gas turbines and will be part of the Combined Diesel and Gas Turbine (CODAG) systems on the Malmö and Stockholm corvettes. Each TF50 will be rated at 4 megawatts and will drive a controllable pitch propeller through new primary reduction gear. Vericor Power Systems is providing a total of 28 TF50 gas turbines including spares for the Visby program, which consists of six vessels, all built by Kockums. Measuring 164 ft. (50 m), the Malmö and Stockholm vessels were commissioned in 1985. Other enhancements being made to these two vessels include command and control systems and sensor upgrades, along with structural modifications designed to minimize radar signature.

Vericor Power Systems Signs Agreement With MTU Friedrichshafen

Vericor Power Systems announced it has signed an agreement with MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH (MTU), whereby MTU will package and distribute Vericor’s TF™40 and TF™50 aeroderivative marine gas turbines. The Vericor/MTU-F distribution agreement will greatly supplement Vericor’s direct marketing activities for the TF series gas turbines to worldwide marine customers. The TF40 is rated at 4,000 shaft horsepower (shp)/2,983kilowatts (kW) and the TF50 provides 5,100 shp/3,803 kW. Both engines can be incorporated into a variety of flexible propulsion system arrangements. Vericor Wins $5.2M Deal

Vericor Power Systems, Inc., Alpharetta, Georgia, is being awarded a $5,273,400 priced order under a previously awarded basic ordering agreement (N00104-00-G-A118) for the conversion of four NSN 2S 2835-01-0166 P2, ETF40B Marine Gas Turbine Engines. Work will be performed in Alpharetta, Ga., and is expected to be completed by March 2006. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. Tognum Signs Contract for Gas Turbines

Tognum’s subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen and Vericor Power Systems, based in Georgia, recently signed a new contract to run until 2012 for the supply of gas turbines to be used in complete MTU marine propulsion systems. The existing contract for a period of two years has thus been extended to five years. The so-called TF™50 gas turbines will be used in combination with MTU diesel engines and MTU marine electronics as complete propulsion systems in ships. The main applications are in yachts and fast ferries. The TF 50 delivers a power output of 4,118 kW (5,600 hp). the advantages of both types of propulsion system. With longer routes or at lower speeds, the diesel engine is the sole propulsion. For maximum speeds, the gas turbine is switched on as well.

AlliedSignal And MTU Combine For Industrial And Marine GT Business

AlliedSignal and MTU München, a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler Aerospace, have agreed to form a $100 million joint venture company named Vericor Power Systems. The new company will market, sell and provide customer support for aeroderivative industrial and marine gas turbines ranging from 0.5 to 15 MW.
