American Maritime Safety Award Recipients Announced
American Maritime Safety, Inc., (AMS), announced today that Bouchard Transportation Company, Inc., Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises, General Dynamics/American Overseas Marine Corporation, Patriot Contract Services and U.S. Shipping Corporation would be the recipients of the 2014 AMS Maritime Safety Awards. AMS is a nonprofit maritime trade association, which facilitates the maritime industry's compliance with international shipping protocols and U.S. Coast Guard regulations. The AMS consortium is comprised of more than 400 vessel owners and operators.

One aspect of this modernization process in the United States was the creation of the International Trade Data System (ITDS), a product of Vice President Gore’s National Performance Review in 1995.
Ship Grounded on Welsh Coast – Removal Decided
The operation to remove the remaining 24,000 litres of fuel oil, along with oily water and other hazardous materials from the grounded vessel ‘Carrier’ has been completed. The vessel, which ran aground on 4 April near Llanddulas in North Wales, remains aground and is resting against concrete dolosse blocks on the beach close to the North Wales Expressway (A55). The owners of the vessel have declared it a Constructive Total Loss. PGC Demolition, the same company who were awarded the contract to remove the fuel oil from the vessel, were also awarded the contract to remove the wreck of the vessel. Their proposals to cut the vessel up on site and remove it for recycling have been approved by the Deputy to the Secretary of State’s Representative for Maritime Salvage and Intervention…
AMS Annual Membership Conference & Awards
The October 7th Annual Membership Conference for members of American Maritime Safety, Inc., was not officially billed as a 23rd anniversary event. Nevertheless, the story of AMS, an organization established by a group of U.S. based vessel owners and operators, is worthy of special mention. Indeed, this New York based Maritime Consortium has rapidly expanded in scope since its founding in 1988. From humble beginnings in New York, AMS has grown to over 400 vessel owners and operators and is now recognized as the leading industry association on regulatory compliance in the U.S.
Shippers, Carriers, Marine Terminals and the Trade Act of 2002
Buried in the Trade Act of 2002, which was signed into law Tuesday by President Bush, are several provisions of great potential impact on maritime interests involved in international trade to or from the United States. The Customs Service is now authorized to require that information pertaining to cargo destined for importation into the United States or exportation from the United States (such as cargo manifests) be transmitted to the Customs Service through an electronic data interchange system prior to such importation or exportation. With regard specifically to waterborne cargo destined for export from the United States, no shipper (including an NVOCC) may tender such cargo to a vessel carrier unless the cargo has been properly documented with the Customs Service.
