Wilson, Watson to Keynote SHIPPINGInsight 2014

Maritime industry executives Captain Michael Wilson and Jim Watson are keynote speakers for SHIPPINGInsight 2014, North America’s premier maritime industry technical forum, Sept. 30 through Oct. 2, 2014 in Stamford, Conn., at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel. Wilson, president of Laurin Maritime (Americas) Inc. and chief operating officer of Laurin Maritime, and Watson, president and chief operating officer of ABS Americas, will be the lead speakers at SHIPPINGInsight’s Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition on Oct. 1 and 2.

Tankship Operators Complain They Get Short End of the SIRE Stick

The Ship Inspection Report (SIRE) programme developed by the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) intended that tanker inspection reports should be shared by all OCIMF members. They are not. The cost of inspections should be shared by both parties. They are not. And to make matters worse, ship operators often have to pay the costs of luxury travel for inspectors. INTERTANKO Seafarers’ Vetting Seminar a Success

Over 1,300 seafaring officers and crew attended INTERTANKO’s Seafarers’ Vetting Seminar held last week at the NYK-TDG Maritime Academy in Laguna in the Philippines. The packed auditorium demonstrated the need and the desire for up-to-date and practical information on tanker vetting –successful vetting inspections are a crucial part of the commercial operation of any tanker. The seminar was conducted in response to INTERTANKO’s focus on the human element and the emphasis by INTERTANKO’s Vetting Committee that all seafarers should be actively involved in the ship inspection process.

Greater Access to INTERTANKO Database

Access to INTERTANKO's Terminal Vetting Database (TVD) is now available to those who are tanker owners/operators, terminal owners/operators, PSC authorities and others with a legitimate interest in improving safety, but who are not Members or Associate Members of the Association. Access to the TVD continues to remain free of charge, although access still requires agreement and compliance with the TVD's terms and conditions of use. Intertanko Proceeds with Terminal Veting Database

After a six month trial period in 2003, INTERTANKO has moved full ahead in its Terminal Vetting Database (TVD). To date, some 4,500 reports have been received for input into the system. Each report contains a summary of the Master's assessment while his vessel was alongside, and is based on a simple rating system with additional comments where required. The easy-to-use report forms can be completed on line. Pulled together into a database, this shared experience provides first class information on different berths and terminals, around the world, pinpointing problems and potential problems, so that others can learn from it.
