New Diving Training Ship Delivered to Tunisia

The Tunisian government has taken delivery of a new training ship, Zarzis A710, which will support diving and security works in air and sea areas of the Mediterranean. The vessel was built by Vittoria Shipyard SpA and commissioned by the Tunisian Defense Ministry as part of the Tunisian-Italian cooperation agreement signed in spring 2015. The Diving Support Vessel will be deployed by the Tunisian authorities as part of the stabilization and pacification operation in North Africa and the Mediterranean area.

Harris Corp Awarded Huge Navy Satcom Contract

Florida-based Harris Corporation informs it has been awarded a US Navy potential US$133-Million broadband satellite communication terminal contract. Harris to deliver up to 120 high-data-rate terminals to support mission communications and morale of shipboard personnel. Terminals greatly enhance shipboard access to high-bandwidth services. Contract brings total potential value to more than $250 million of contract awards to Harris under the Navy’s Commercial Broadband Satellite Program.

DigiGone Approved for Thuraya Satellite Network

DigiGone announced that its video communications system and software platform has been approved for use with Thuraya’s IP terminals. A mobile satellite services operator, Thuraya is actively rolling out the DigiGone satellite communications solution across their distribution channels in all vertical markets. Optimized for narrowband satellite channels, DigiGone offers high-quality encrypted video and audio conferencing, video streaming, Voice over IP (VoIP), IM Chat and file transfer using a small fraction of the bandwidth needed for other commercial video telecommunication solutions.

New Satellite Hub for Offshore Use Set in Doha, Qatar

VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect) a company of VT Sustems Inc. (VT Systems) announce that RigNet, a global provider of managed remote communications solutions to the oil and gas industry has deployed a new Series 15100 universal satellite hub in Doha, Qatar. The new Evolution hub will extend RigNet's VSAT coverage in the Middle East and will enhance the company's satellite communications service in the oil and gas sectors. As a managed services provider, RigNet delivers turnkey solutions for installing and managing VSAT networks. Using iDirect's Intelligent Platform, RigNet supports a wide range of applications that are critical for the oil and gas industry, such as broadband data, voice and video communications, as well as real-time data management.

Telenor Launches New Service

Telenor Satellite Services today announced the commercial launch of Telenor Fleet F55, the first high-speed data solution available for coastal and regional vessels and large yachts. The company also announced that it plans to commercially launch the third member of the Inmarsat Fleet family, Fleet F33, by the end of November. The two new services provide small to medium-sized vessels a powerful communications solution incorporating global voice and a range of data and fax services. Telenor Fleet F55 service offers maritime customers high-speed data communications, at up to 64kbps, in smaller equipment suitable for smaller vessels.
