DNV GL Alliance for Offshore Wind Energy Development in Vietnam

Singapore-based Enterprize Energy and partner Renewable Energy Global Solutions (REGS), together with PetroVietnam consortium comprising Petroleum Equipment Assembly & Metal Structure (PVC-MS) and VietSovPetro (VSP), MHI-Vestas Offshore Wind (MVOW), and DNV GL signed a series of exclusive Agreements forming an alliance for multi-phased, utility-scale wind developments, offshore Southern Vietnam, including feasibility, environmental, development, financing planning through implementation. Ian Hatton, Enterprize Energy’s Chairman and Founder Director commented, “Vietnam’s impressive economic growth is driving a need for new energy resources. Government has a very clear determination to meet rising energy demand with substantive growth in the supply of low-carbon, renewable energy”.

Vietnam University Selects Intergraph SmartMarine Enterprise

PetroVietnam University (PVU) joined the Intergraph Education Grant Program. PVU is located in the offshore oil and gas hub of southern Vietnam, and was established to focus on the development of the country's oil and gas industry. The Vietnamese university recognized that it needs to equip its students with the necessary skills and knowledge so that they are ready to apply the tools that employers already use when they join the work force. PVU will provide its students with access to SmartMarine Enterprise solutions, including SmartMarine 3D, SmartPlant Review, SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant P&ID and SmartSketch. Intergraph's ruled-based technology features unique automation capabilities, which was a compelling factor in PVU's decision.

Cargotec Secures Vietnamese Pipelayer with Mooring Solutions

A contract for mooring equipment for a pipelaying barge marks Cargotec’s successful entry to the Vietnamese offshore market. In July this year, Cargotec won a contract from the joint stock company Vinh Nam (VAM JSC)/TECMACH  to supply mooring equipment outfits for Vietsovpetro’s 110m-long by 30.5m-breadth pipelaying crane barge, Con Son. Keppel Delivers PV Drilling III Jackup Early

Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) has been awarded a bonus of $460,000 for delivering the KFELS B Class jackup rig, PV Drilling III, early to PetroVietnam Drilling & Well Services Corp (PV Drilling). Completed 1.5 months ahead of schedule, without incidents, PV Drilling III has departed Keppel FELS for Vietnam to begin a five-year contract with Vietsovpetro in the Bach Ho field, offshore Vietnam. GL Opens Two More Offices in Vietnam

In recent years, Vietnam has emerged as an important producer of oil and natural gas in Southeast Asia. Despite the current economic crisis, the country continues boosting its activities in the energy industry. Accordingly, global technical assurance and consulting company Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has reinforced its local presence by opening two new offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang. Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services have been operating in Vietnam since 1996. At first only a Representative Office with four people, GL today employs a team of almost 30 based in the country office in Vung Tau, in Hanoi and the new offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang.

Blue Marlin Serves as Floating Drydock for SemiSub

The first job of the recently jumboized heavy transport vessel Blue Marlin is the transport of the the Dai Hung I semi-submersible production platform of VietsovPetro from an offshore location to Hyundai-Vinashin's yard in Nha Trang, Vietnam, where the Blue Marlin will serve as a dry-dock facility. Dockwise was awarded the contract by Hyundai-Vinashin of Nha Trang in Vietnam for the transport and dry-docking of the 13,200 tons semi-submersible production platform Dai Hung I, as no local dry-docking facilities were available.

Vietsovpetro To Operate New Tanker

The Vietnam-Russia oil and gas joint venture, Vietsovpetro, plans to operate a new tanker from next week, bringing their crude transportation fleet to four, officials said. It was reported that the new tanker was built by a Japanese firm at a cost of $90 million and had a capacity of 150,000 tons of crude (1.1 million barrels). It will reportedly become operational from October 10. Vietsovpetro officials have said Ba Vi was taken into dry dock for repair after bad weather damaged its single mooring buoy in mid-February, cutting by more than half the output of crude oil and gas from the Bach Ho field. The vessel resumed operations in April. An industry source said that at the time that the damage was not to the mooring buoy but to a crude oil tank.

Keppel FELS Gets New Rig Order

Keppel FELS Limited secured a $110 million contract to build a jackup rig for Petrovietnam Drilling & Well Services Company (PV Drilling). The Saigon Shipbuilding and Maritime Industry Company (Saigon Shipmarin) has started building two 8,000-ton cargo vessels for Japan. These are the first cargo vessels that Saigon Shipmarin, a member of the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin), has built for foreign customers. They are expected to be completed by the end of 2007. The company has built 15,000-tonne barges and two 6,800-ton cargo vessels which are expected to be launched soon. Saigon Shipmarin has won a bidding package to repair a 1,200-tonne floating crane and a ship for VietsovPetro. In addition, the company is repairing a 32,000-ton vessel for Singapore.

Keppel Fels Repairs Tam Dao Drilling Rig

Keppel Fels Limited has completed its $10 million contract with Vietnam-Russian joint venture company Vietsovpetro for the repair of jack up drilling rig Tam Dao. The MSC CJ 50 design rig was built by Keppel in 1988 and has since been operating in Vietnam with positive commercial returns for the owner/operator. Keppel performed the last repair on Tam Dao in 1992. Per the contract, Keppel Fels overhauled the rig's main generators, repaired its blowout preventer (BOP) units and jacking structures. The company also replaced some of the rig's drilling equipment, as well as refurbishing its existing derrick. Tam Dao's electrical, piping, automation and electronic systems were also repaired; drydock work consisted of hull painting.
