Vigor Marine has been awarded a contract for a 93-calendar day shipyard availability for a mid-term availability of Military Sealift Command’s (MSC) hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19).The $21,198,656 firm-fixed-price contract includes a base period and options, which if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $21,711,746. Vigor was the sole bidder for the project.Work will be performed in Portland, Ore., beginning March 15, 2024, and is expected to be completed by June 15…

Vigor Marine has been awarded a contract for the maintenance, modernization, and repair of the U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Gridley (DDG 101).The $37,398,872 firm-fixed-price contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $39,776,408.Work will be performed in Everett, Wash., and is expected to be completed by October 2023. If all options are exercised, work will continue through October 2023.This contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website, with four offers received.

Portland, Ore.-based Vigor Marine has been awarded a contract for a 90-calendar day shipyard availability for a mid-term availability of Military Sealift Command’s hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19).The $20,187,816 firm-fixed-price contract includes a base period and options, which if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $20,915,538. Work will be performed in Portland, Ore., beginning January 16, 2023, and is expected to be completed by April 15, 2023.

Portland, Ore. based shipbuilding and repair company Vigor Marine has been awarded a $131,151,747 firm-fixed-price contract action to accomplish the USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) 2C1 dry-docking selected restricted availability (DSRA).The contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $131,826,808.Work will be performed in Seattle (77%) and Everett, Wash. (23%), and is expected to be completed by February 2024.This contract was not competitively procured in accordance with 10 U.S. Code 2304(c)(3).

Vigor Marine has been awarded a $133,406,869 firm-fixed-price contract to prepare for and accomplish repair and alteration requirements for USS McCampbell (DDG 85) chief of naval operations scheduled depot maintenance availability. The contract includes options which, if exercised, will bring the cumulative value of this contract to $155,621,173.The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer departed Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan on July 2, and is currently is en route to Vigor's Portland, Ore. shipyard, where she will undergo her midlife modernization.

U.S. West Coast shipbuilder and repair provider Vigor Marine has been awarded a $30,269,098 firm-fixed-price contract for a 120-calendar day post shakedown shipyard availability of the expeditionary sea base ship Miguel Keith (T-ESB 5), owned and operated by the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command.Work will be performed in Portland, Ore. and is expected to be complete by December 2020.Work will include the furnishing of general services, shipboard access, clean and gas free tank voids and cofferdams…

Vigor Marine has been awarded a $56,450,644 firm-fixed-price contract for a 210-calendar day split shipyard availability for the regular overhaul and dry docking of the hospital ship U.S. Naval Ship Mercy (T-AH 19).Work will be performed in Portland, Ore., and is expected to be complete by August 2021. The deal includes one base period and 17 options that, if exercised, will bring the cumulative value to $61,201,329. The contract was competitively procured, but Vigor was the only shipyard to bid for the project.

Military Sealift Command has awarded a $20,880,790 firm, fixed-price contract to Portland, Ore. shipyard Vigor Marine for an 87-day shipyard availability for the overhaul dry-docking availability of the underway replenishment oiler USNS Guadalupe (T-AO 200).Scheduled work includes the furnishing of general services, shipboard access, clean and gas free tank voids and cofferdams, preservation of aft ballast and cargo tanks as well as the flight deck, overhaul repairs to main engine turbochargers and HP air compressor…

Vigor Marine LLC, Portland, Oregon, is being awarded a $35,000,000 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity contract to prepare for and accomplish repair and alteration requirements in support of upcoming dry-docking selected restricted availabilities (DSRA) for DDG 51-class destroyers. This contract will support the dry-docking and facility support requirements for a DSRA and includes dry-docking support, office spaces, warehousing, lay-down, security, crane support, utilities, galley services and other ship’s force support. Work will be performed in Seattle, Washington, and is expected to be completed by September 2020.

Vigor Marine LLC, Portland, Oregon, is being awarded a $19,629,518 firm-fixed-price contract to prepare for and accomplish repair and alteration requirements for USS Kidd (DDG 100) Chief of Naval Operations scheduled, selected restricted availability (SRA) in support of the DDG-51-class destroyer ship repair program. For U.S. Naval Surface Combatants – typical repair and maintenance work to be performed in SRA includes modernization ship alterations; blasting, painting and surface preparation for complete or touch-up preservation, freeboard, struts, rudders, running gear, ground tackle, and sea-chest; hull, mechanical and electrical; various interior tanks. Work will be performed in Everett, Washington, and is expected to be completed by September, 2018.

Vigor Marine LLC, Portland, Oregon, is being awarded a $10,268,877 firm-fixed-price contract for a 45-calendar day shipyard availability for the regular overhaul and dry docking of USNS Matthew Perry (T-AKE 9). Work will include clean and gas-free tanks, voids, cofferdams and spaces, deckhouse preservation, main generator maintenance and cleaning, high voltage switchboard and emergency switchboard cleaning, shell and deck steel replacement, dry-docking and undocking, propeller shaft and stern tube inspect, forward and aft stern tube seal inspection and overhaul, underwater hull cleaning and painting, freeboard cleaning and painting,  sea valve replacements, renew flight deck nonskid, and reverse osmosis unit sea-chest installation.

Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG), a naval architecture and marine engineering firm with offices in Seattle, New Orleans and Ketchikan, Alaska, today announced the completion of the M/V Columbia repower. EBDG provided design services and ongoing owner support services for the ferry's repower, which was performed by Vigor Marine in Portland, Ore. "The Columbia was designed for the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) by EBDG's predecessor firm, so we're intimately familiar with the vessel and its systems," said EBDG Project Manager Matt Williamson.

Ship construction programs move ahead, but it’s not smooth sailing. Navies and Coast Guards everywhere face budgetary pressure, even in the U.S. which has the largest Navy in the world. The balance between desire for capacity and capability and pressure for affordability has never been more acute with the precarious budgetary issues presented by declining defense budgets, sequestration, continuing resolutions and government shutdowns. Vigor Industrial has ballooned from a modest shipyard in Portland, Oregon, to the largest shipbuilder in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Vigor increasingly thinks big and builds big. The company’s new floating dry dock will be the largest in the United States. And Vigor wants to get even bigger. CEO and owner Frank Foti expresses an ambition to grow to twice the current size in the “next few years.” Foti, who is also chairman of the Shipbuilder’s Council of America, says he is, “striving for critical mass.

Amongst the listing of new Department of Defense, Navy contracts. Vigor Marine LLC, Portland, Ore., is being awarded a $12,954,046 firm-fixed-price contract for a 120-calendar day post shakedown availability, regular overhaul and dry-docking availability of missile range instrumentation ship the USNS Howard O. Lorenzen (T-AGM 25). Work will include fuel oil fill; transfer and overflow systems modifications; main diesel engine fuel oil service piping modifications; relocation of AC seawater pumps; docking and undocking; and underwater hull cleaning and painting.

Vigor Industrial announced today that it has renamed two of the company’s subsidiaries. U.S. Fab, Vigor’s fabrication and shipbuilding subsidiary, is now Vigor Fab. Alaska Ship and Drydock, which operates the Ketchikan shipyard in Alaska, is now Vigor Alaska. “It’s about better serving our customers,” explained Frank Foti, president and CEO of Vigor Industrial. •Vigor Shipyards, which provides repair, maintenance and modernization services to the U.S. The changes apply to the names only and do not alter the operating structures of either subsidiary. The new names go into effect immediately.

Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering company Guido Perla and Associates, Inc. (GPA) announced the completion on time and within budget of a major renovation of the fireboat Chief Seattle at Vigor Marine in Everett, Washington. Under the direction of the City of Seattle’s Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS), GPA’s team managed the project from initiation to delivery, working closely with FAS, Vigor Marine and the Seattle Fire Department. The 96 feet 6 inches Chief Seattle, built in 1984, replaces the Alki, built in 1927, as the city’s primary freshwater fireboat.

The Kulluk and Noble Discoverer set sail for the Arctic today from Vigor Industrial’s Seattle shipyard, following completion of extensive environmental and safety upgrades by its commercial ship repair subsidiary, Vigor Marine. The Kulluk, an ice-classed semi-submersible drill rig measuring 266’ x 230’, arrived at Vigor’s Seattle yard in July, 2011. Following the work done by Vigor Marine teams, it will operate with zero discharge in the Beaufort and Chuckchi Seas. Everything down to the sink water will be captured and stored.

Vigor Marine, a Vigor Industrial subsidiary, recently completed work on Barge Klamath, converting the vessel from a petroleum tank barge to an OSVR measuring 350’ x 76’ x 22’. The barge is owned by Crowley and leased to Shell as part of its comprehensive Alaskan oil spill response fleet in the Beaufort and Chuckchi seas. “Vigor’s extensive expertise in ice classing vessels for arctic waters, combined with the geographic proximity of their facilities, has made them a strong partner for Shell’s planned offshore operations in Alaska,” said Curtis Smith, spokesman for Shell Alaska.

According to a report on  http://heraldnet.com a 140-foot tugboat reportedly containing up to 60,000 gallons of diesel that capsized at the Vigor Marine Shipyard along the Everett waterfront. According to the news source, th dry dock began sinking Saturday evening and stopped about noon Sunday after hitting the sea floor, according to a press release from the U.S. Coast Guard. The dry dock and the tug Invader became partially submerged.

USCG cutter responds to sinking, pollution hazard posed by drydock containing Everett, Wash. The Coast Guard and Washington Dept. of Ecology are responding to a potential environmental hazard involving a sunken 200-foot section of dry dock that contained the 140-foot tug Invader, at the Vigor Marine Shipyard in Everett, Wash., Sunday. The dry dock began sinking after making contact with the sea floor. Both the dry dock and the tug are partially submerged, with the Invader capsized on its starboard side. There is also paint, scissor lifts, and a propane fork lift on the dry dock. The cause for the sinking has not been determined. The owner of the Invader has confirmed that an estimated 50,000-60,000 gallons of diesel is contained in the vessel’s fuel tanks.
