Sovcomflot’s New Icebreaker Named

A ceremony raising the flag of the Russian Federation and naming a new multifunctional icebreaking platform supply vessel, Yevgeny Primakov, took place on February 3, 2018 in Saint Petersburg. Russia Plans to Sell Sovkomflot Shares in New York

Russia hopes to place shares of shipping company Sovkomflot in New York as part of its privatisation plans, a deputy minister of transport told reporters on Friday, a move which could face resistance due to confrontation with the West over Moscow's role in Ukraine. The government plans to raise 200 billion roubles ($3.8 bln) by selling stakes in state companies this year. The plans for the year involved the sale of shares in top oil producer Rosneft , Rostelecom, Sovkomflot and sea port Novorossiisk. Viktor Olersky said that Sovkomflot's share placement may be carried out next spring on a New York stock exchange. The plans, however, could be hampered by Russia's standoff with the West.

Brazilian Shipbuilder Urges Russia to Strengthen Maritime Ties

AMEC Kromav, the Rio de Janeiro-headquartered specialist company for shipbuilding and offshore activities, has urged Russian industry to take full advantage of Brazil’s multibillion dollar offshore industry opportunities. Maritime Policy is Central Theme at Russian-Dutch Conference

New public policy priorities, government support and legislation for navigation on inland waterways in Russia, as well as fleet modernisation and waterways infrastructure will be discussed during the conference ‘Russian-Dutch Bilateral Year 2013: the Strategy of Water Transport’. NSR Traffic May Increase 8-Fold by 2020

The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Viktor Olersky, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, Koji Sekimizu, on an inspection visit at the eastern sector of the Northern Sea Route, told RiaNovosti that traffic on the Northern Sea Route may increase more than 8 times by 2020, reaching 30 million tonnes a year. Citing Olersky, Ria Novosti report that today there is active development of the shelves of the Barents and Kara Seas with dozens of oil platforms each supplied by two or three vessels. The port of Sabetta under construction, according to preliminary estimates of the deputy head of the ministry, will take 220 ship calls each year.
