Simulation Complex for Paraguay Waterway Training

The Transas navigational simulator Navi-Trainer Professional 5000 was installed at the Center for Maritime and River Shipowners (CAFyM) in Asuncion for training crews in tugs operations in the Parana-Paraguay Waterway. The project was carried out in conjunction with VTG S.R.L., the Transas' local representative, which is covering commercial and technical needs of the Paraguayan market for all Transas products. The NTPRO version 5.35 installed at the CAFyM center is an excellent training solution due to its new capabilities for operation with different types of boats and barges in river waters.

Fugro Wins Flood Risk Data Contract

Fugro, as a member of the Compass PTS joint venture, has been awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract for flood risk data services. The contract was awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Compass PTS joint venture, led by AECOM Technology Corporation and CDM Smith, unites partners Fugro, T&M Associates, Halff Associates, and ABSG Consulting. It will provide architectural and engineering support services to continue FEMA’s goals to reduce risk to life and property by increasing public awareness. As the geospatial content and knowledge provider of the joint venture, Fugro will deliver integrated LiDAR-derived solutions and traditional and oblique imagery solutions as well as visualization software.

New Tech & Tug Training

Mass. Maritime responds to industry demand, reloads with cutting edge Transas equipment, and moves to the head of the brown water training queue. It was a dark and stormy night with choppy seas. I didn’t hit anything, but I did run aground twice while at the helm of the tug boat simulator at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) in Buzzards Bay. But then that’s the point – to let students safely make mistakes and get the closest thing to the real-life experience they need – and would have a limited shot at otherwise on the equipment they’ll be handling where the jobs are today…

New Simulation Capability - MAMA

Mid-Atlantic Maritime Academy in Virginia Beach, VA announced the installation of a Transas ERS4000 Engine Room Simulator. The simulator provides is a complete training system that includes classroom demonstrations and scenario playback, stand-alone and team watch-standing operation of the engineering plant in a computer lab setting, as well as watch-standing operations in an engine control room mockup with dedicated control consoles and switchboards. The system provides the capability of integration with the school’s full-bridge ship-handling simulator for joint bridge/engine room training exercises. The simulator is IMO STCW-95 compliant for watch keeping  functions at both support and operational levels, for training unlicensed and licensed watch-standers.
