APM Terminals Pipavav Boosts Efficiency

The implementation of a range of simple measures to streamline shift changes at APM Terminals Pipavav has reduced vessel idle times, added capacity and reduced impact on crane moves per hour due to shift change by around 16%.At the same time, it has also improved trailer driver and crane operator safety, said a press release from APM Terminals, an international container terminal operating company headquartered in The Hague.The Pipavav team has introduced clearly marked parking bays for terminal trailers, which provide a safe distance between each trailer. This provides drivers with a safe area to conduct per-operation checks and protects them from other vehicles when exiting their trailers.

RVOS Retrofits Fleet for DP Ops

Saudi Arabia’s Rawabi Vallianz Offshore Services  (RVOS) has contracted Netherlands-based Praxis Automation Technology to deliver dynamic positioning systems for its fleet of offshore support vessels (OSVs) operating out of the country. RockFLEET Approved as Only Iridium Solution for Queensland Fishing VMS

The proven RockFLEET global tracking and messaging system, manufactured by UK-based Iridium satcom specialist Rock Seven, has been selected as one of four approved devices in a mandated scheme to install a Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) to all commercial fishing boats in Queensland, Australia.Under the terms of the scheme, all commercial fishing and charter boats will require a vessel tracking device to be fitted and operational by 2020. Net, crab and line boats, meanwhile, will need to have a VMS in place from January 1, 2019.

Kongsberg Camera System for Canadian Navy Vessel

Aberdeen based Kongsberg Maritime camera systems group has delivered a new large network IP CCTV system to Chantier Davie Canada for installation aboard the new Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) Auxiliary Naval Replenishment Ship, known currently as ‘Project Resolve’. Project Resolve was established to develop an interim fleet supply vessel for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). The project purchased MS Asterix, a commercial containership, and is converting it into an Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment ship that will be chartered by the Royal Canadian Navy.

Lerwick Port Launches Latest VMS

Lerwick Port Authority have inaugurated a new Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) which utilises the latest technology to improve the handling of ship movements at the busy Shetland port. Transas, a world-leader in providing harmonised integrated solutions to the maritime industry, has installed the system across four sites covering the port area – port control in the main building and three remote stations, at Rova Head north of Lerwick and Maryfield and Kirkabister, on the island of Bressay, monitoring the northern approaches, inner harbour and southern approaches, respectively. Fibre and microwave links supply data back to port control. The completion was marked on Friday 19 August, 2016 with invitations extended to port users to view the new system.

BigOceanData Provides VMS to Falkland Islands

BigOceanData has been awarded a contract to provide the Government of the Falkland Islands with its vessel monitoring system (VMS) capability for another five years. For the first time the system will include AIS data, which will be integrated with existing Inmarsat tracking data from the fishing vessels. BigOceanData has been supplying the Falkland Islands government with its vessel monitoring system (VMS) for over 10 years. The system is based on an in-house client/server enterprise IT system and Inmarsat cooperative tracking.

Transas VMS for Lerwick Harbor

Transas signed a contract with Lerwick Port Authority to install a new Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) to cover Lerwick Harbour, in Shetland. The new Transas system is required to replace Lerwick Harbour’s existing system. Lerwick is a major commercial port in Britain, strategically situated at the crossroads of the North Sea and North-East Atlantic. Handling more than 5,000 vessel arrivals, totalling over 12,000,000 gross tonnes, annually, the deep-water port’s users include fishing, oil and gas support, cargo, sailing, ferries and cruises. CMIT Welcomes First 14,000 TEU Box Ship

On October 29, 2015 Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) received the maiden call of the 14,000 TEU m/v CSCL Star, the ultra large container vessel (ULCV) of 157,000 DWT, deployed in the Ocean 3 Alliance, marking the first Vietnam/Northern Europe direct service. Notably, within the last week, two feeder services have also started to call at CMIT to connect both the local Vietnamese export cargo and the international export cargo from Thailand and Cambodia, all transshipped through CMIT.

Northrop Grumman VMS Approved for US Navy Subs

Northrop Grumman's Voyage Management System approved for use on U.S. The U.S. Navy has approved the use of Northrop Grumman Corporation's Voyage Management System (VMS), version 9.3, onboard SSN and SSGN nuclear powered submarines. The VMS software package will be installed on 55 SSNs and four SSGNs operating globally from all U.S. Navy submarine homeports. Installations have already begun and will be completed by the end of 2016. Version 9.3 which supports polar operations has significantly increased rendering speeds, integrates seamlessly with combat radar and mission planning submarine systems and allows for real-time checking of installed charts.

GNS Launches Free E-Navigation Solutions

Northrop Grumman Corporation recently donated $3 million worth of training software to the U.S. Naval Academy, and also presented the Elmer A. Sperry Junior Navigator of the Year Award to Midshipman First Class Tyler Ledoux. The company donated 100 licenses of its Voyage Management System (VMS) software to the U. S. Naval Academy Foundation for midshipmen training use at the Naval Academy. The VMS software incorporates the Electronic Chart Display and Information System-Navy (ECDIS-N) which was selected by the navigator of the Navy and is now a fleet standard.
