Thuraya Launches Broadband Satellite Terminal

Thuraya Telecommunications, a Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) operator, said it has further extended its maritime product portfolio with the launch of Atlas IP, a feature-rich broadband satellite terminal. Thuraya Atlas IP is the second maritime-specific product launched by Thuraya in 2014 and is designed to complement the Thuraya Orion IP broadband terminal by offering a fully-featured voice and data product with additional functionality built in. Designed and manufactured for Thuraya by Addvalue of Singapore, Thuraya Atlas IP is capable of standard IP data transfer at rates up to 444kbps and asymmetric streaming capability of 16kbps-384kbps. Thuraya Atlas IP is available with Thuraya’s range of pricing plans.

Broadpoint, AT&T Sign Contract

Broadpoint extended its alliance with AT&T, extending AT&T’s wireless voice and data capabilities further into the . “Our business and enterprise customers need a reliable communications system wherever their jobs may take them, and that’s exactly what Broadpoint offers,” said J.R. Wilson, associate vice president of Partnerships and Alliances for AT&T’s wireless operations. “AT&T serves more than 95 percent of the Fortune 100 and over 80 percent of the Fortune 500 companies. The current contract is the latest in a long-standing relationship between the two companies. Over the next few years, it will allow AT&T to expand its mobile enterprise customer base via Broadpoint’s superior cellular communication system.

Telenor Launches New Service

Telenor Satellite Services today announced the commercial launch of Telenor Fleet F55, the first high-speed data solution available for coastal and regional vessels and large yachts. The company also announced that it plans to commercially launch the third member of the Inmarsat Fleet family, Fleet F33, by the end of November. The two new services provide small to medium-sized vessels a powerful communications solution incorporating global voice and a range of data and fax services. Telenor Fleet F55 service offers maritime customers high-speed data communications, at up to 64kbps, in smaller equipment suitable for smaller vessels. Voyager Of The Seas Goes Live

Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), a subsidiary of ATC Teleports of Alexandria, Va. set sail from Finland to the port of Miami on the world's largest cruise ship — Voyager of the Seas. MTN has equipped Voyager with full redundancy services including dual antennas and two MPEG-2 Digital Video units. Each antenna on the 142,000-ton vessel will have 12 lines for multiple voice and data capabilities. In preparation for Voyager's live broadcast, MTN modified one of the existing communications antennas for full motion video uplink. In addition, two flyaway video/audio systems, which are used to convert analog signals to digital are located below deck.
