Russian Shipyard Lays Second Icebreaker Keel

Vyborg Shipyard, in NW Russia, to start construction of the next Icebreaker project 21900М ahead of schedule. The solemn ceremony of keel-laying of diesel-powered Icebreaker rated power 16 MW will take place shortly. The shipyard reminds that in the middle of October the keel-laying ceremony took place of the first and prototype Icebreaker project 21900М at Vyborg Shipyard (a United Shipbuilding Corporation company ). The vessels are being constructed by the order of Federal agency of marine and river transport.

Wärtsilä Contracted by Vyborg Shipyard

Wärtsilä was contracted to supply integrated power and automation systems for two Russian icebreakers. Wärtsilä won the contract to supply integrated power and automation systems for two new icebreakers being built for a Russian state-owned enterprise by Vyborg Shipyard JSC, a long-time partner of Wärtsilä. The contract was signed in October 2012. The vessels, scheduled to be delivered in 2015, will operate mainly in the Baltic Sea and in Arctic waters. Wärtsilä's strong track record in supplying reliable and technically sound solutions for icebreakers, and other vessels operating in arctic conditions, was cited as being a key factor in the award of this contract. There is an option pending to supply similar equipment for a third icebreaker within this same project.

Russia's Vyborg Shipyard Signs Icebreaker Power Plant Contract

Vyborg Shipyard & Wärtsilä sign contract for delivery of main electrical power plant, main and harbour gensets for icebreaker project 21900М. Vyborg Shipyard JSC is one of the largest shipbuilding companies of the North-Western Region of Russia with over 60-years’ experience in shipbuilding. Since the Shipyard was founded in 1948 it has built more than 200 different vessels with deadweights up to 12,000 tons, in total with displacement of over 1,300,000 tons. Wärtsilä, Finland Oy, is a leading international supplier of flexible power stations and marine electrical power installations.

Kvaerner Sells Russian Shipyard Stake

Kvaerner has agreed to sell its 75.6 percent stake in Russian shipyard Kvaerner Vyborg Shipyard JSC, to Russia's Zao Ako Barss for an undisclosed price. Kvaerner officials said that the sale, part of a delayed plan for Kvaerner to exit shipbuilding, would mean a small accounting within the scope of provisions made in the 1999 accounts.
