Royal Wagenborg renewed and extended Castor Marine’s Global Ku VSAT connection for multiple years.Since 1898 the Dutch family-owned shipping company has been crossing the oceans, evolving to a fleet operator with about 200 vessels. Besides the extension of 52 Global Ku VSAT contracts, Castor Marine will equip an additional 15 Wagenborg vessels, currently on 4G, with VSAT. For more than eight years the company has provided VSAT, Iridium, Inmarsat FBB, and IT services to the Wagenborg fleet.

The Green Maritime Methanol (GMM) consortium announced that it has selected nine ships for research on the application of renewable methanol as a marine fuel.New designs, newbuildings as well as existing ships of Boskalis, Van Oord, the Royal Netherlands Navy and Wagenborg Shipping were selected.The vessel sizes vary in length from between 40 - 160 meter, with tonnage ranging from 300 - 23.000 dwt and in installed power from 1 - 12 MW. Research for these ships will start with determination of the cost for implementation and use of methanol fuel systems. Marietje Hester discharged bridge sections in Frederiksværk, Denmark, Royal Royal Wagenborg shipping in total 492 concrete segments in 44 voyages from Szczecin, Poland to Denmark and successfully closes the Geodis project.Early 2018 the project started after the Danish authorities have initiated the Fjord Link project to build a new bridge over the Roskilde fjord. The 8.2 km four-lane link will be located just south of Frederikssund.The bridge is planned to open in 2019, so the final sections of the bridge need to be in Denmark by early 2019. Dutch shipowner and operator Royal Wagenborg has ordered a second EasyMax type carrier from compatriot shipbuilder Royal Niestern Sander.Royal Niestern Sander confirmed that it had received an order from Wagenborg for the construction of a sister vessel of the Egbert Wagenborg. The yard will soon start the construction of the second ship of this EasyMax type.This announcement was made during the christening ceremony of the electric inspection vessel PW-18 that Niestern Sander is building for the Province of Groningen.This first electric inspection vessel was christened today by Mrs. Fleur Gräper-Van Koolwijk, representative of the Province of Groningen.

Castor Marine, the Netherlands based maritime communications and IT services provider, has announced that it has been awarded a multi-year contract with Wagenborg Shipping. The contract covers the delivery of 40+ new VSAT systems with satellite Internet based on Castor’s global VSAT network, Inmarsat Fleetbroadband as back-up for the VSAT service and IT support for the vessel LAN infrastructure. Castor Marine will provide an end-to-end solution including installation and onboard support worldwide.

A coalition of U.S. Great Lakes ports, vessel operating companies and maritime trade associations today filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia challenging the U.S. Coast Guard’s 2016 increase in Great Lakes pilotage rates, the American Great Lakes Ports Association (AGLPA) announced. Wärtsilä and Wagenborg Shipping B.V. have signed in June 2014 a six-year Maintenance Agreement for fifteen of Wagenborg's dry cargo carriers. Under the agreement Wärtsilä will provide all maintenance planning and services for the installed engines and propulsion systems with fixed price. This will increase financial predictability of Wagenborg's operations and ensure maximised lifetime, performance and reduced operational costs for Wagenborg's vessels in a safe, reliable, and environmentally sustainable way. "One important result of this contract is that it facilitates more efficient maintenance. Our goal is to improve technical engine performance and optimise maintenance planning.

The European consortium for Short Sea Shipping (SSS) chooses 8 ships to provide an insight into feasibility of LNG as a bunker fuel. The selection of ships took place in close co-operation between the SSS consortium partners. Both new designs, new buildings as well as existing ships of Wagenborg Shipping, Damen Shipyards Bergum, Meyer Werft & Conoship International were selected. The sizes of these ships vary in length from about 80 meter up to 160 meter and in tonnage from about 2.500 until 15.000 dwt. Research for these ships starts with determination of the cost for implementation and use of LNG systems and then the results of this research will be compared against the use of scrubber technology and low sulphur marine diesel to curb engine exhaust gas emissions.

Wärtsilä has signed a three-year training contract with its long-time customer Wagenborg Shipping of the Netherlands. The agreement covers the training of more than 830 of the shipping company's crew members, and will be held at Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academy training centers. The training consists of about 70 courses a year. The program includes product specific instruction on diesel engines and propulsion systems, as well as customized training in electrical engineering, navigation, hydraulics and pneumatics. "Wagenborg Shipping employs more than a thousand seamen on its vessels. They come not only from the Netherlands and other parts of Europe, but from various parts of the world.

The Dutch shipowner Wagenborg Shipping ordered two Wärtsilä 46F engines in April for a new feeder containership being built by IHC Holland Dredger BV at the Kinderdijk shipyard in the Netherlands. On its completion in mid-2006, the vessel will operate in the northern European waters. In addition to the two common-rail main engines Wärtsilä will also supply the propeller for the vessel. Introduced in autumn 2004, the Wärtsilä 46F is the latest medium-speed marine engine developed by Wärtsilä. Its main components and systems represent the best-in-class technology, offering high efficiency and record-low emissions regardless of the fuel quality.

Wärtsilä Corporation won a contract to supply two Wärtsilä 46F engines to power an Ice class 1A, 1700 TEU open-top container feeder vessel ordered by the Dutch shipowner Wagenborg Shipping, a member of the Royal Wagenborg group. To be built by the Kinderdijk shipyard of IHC Holland Dredgers BV in the Netherlands, the vessel will measure 547.7 x 77.3 x 25.3 ft. (167 x 23.7 x 7.7 m). Its hatchless design will ensure fast turnround times in port, while a speed of about 21 knots will give short transit times. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in mid 2006 and will be mainly employed in northern European waters. Wärtsilä is to supply the ship with both the two main engines and a controllable-pitch (CP) propeller.

SAM Electronics Nederland of Rotterdam, a subsidiary of Hamburg-based SAM Electronics, has been awarded a major contract for supply of NACOS 34-5 integrated navigation command systems and associated equipment for installation aboard four 17,300 dwt multipurpose carriers under construction at the Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai for delivery to Wagenborg Shipping in 2007; options to similarly equipment a further two scheduled vessels are pending. The systems, featuring integrated radar, track control and Ecdis functions, will be supplemented by provision of Debeg AIS, GPS, VDR and SSAS facilities as well as those for GMDSS communications.
