Hueneme Welcomes Its First Post-Panamax Ship

Port of Hueneme’s first Post-Panamax ship was greeted by Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines (WWL) company leaders and Port officials during an occasion marking a paradigm shift in how the widened Panama Canal will bring a new class of vessels to the Port of Hueneme. This maiden voyage of the M/V Thalatta marks a new milestone to support the Port’s and its industry partners’ agenda. Thalatta is one of the newest high efficiency Roll on Roll off (RoRo) HERO class vessels designed to increase capacity and flexibility while reducing emissions.

Scheduled for a September 2003 release, the next major revision of the 3-D product modeling software for shipbuilding and offshore platforms from Albacore Research Ltd., ShipConstructor2004, will include a full Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning module (HVAC). HVAC is a fully integrated member of the ShipConstructor suite of Structure, Automatic and Manual Nest, NC Code generation, Outfit, Pipe, Fairing, and Lofting tools. To facilitate automatic report generation, HVAC makes full use of ShipConstructor's SQL Server product database. As with all ShipConstructor modules, HVAC is a full 3-D modeling package; this reduces drafting errors and time-to-production. With ShipConstructor, HVAC ducts are full-featured AutoCAD entities.

CAD/CAM: Stability Software for Semi Submersible Rigs

Not all stability software is made equal. Even if all commonly available stability programs were of the same quality, virtually all of them are designed first and foremost for conventional vessels - and it's no secret that the unique characteristics of offshore platforms demand capabilities not usually required for ships. Rig stability is a very critical issue, and it can also be quite complex. What rig operators need is software that can constantly monitor and predict stability in any combination of circumstances; but what they don't need is an interface as complex as the problem. MOL Names President of Mitsui

MOL, Ltd. has appointed Paul Carlton as president of the company’s western hemisphere bulk agency, Mitsui O.S.K. Bulk Shipping (USA) Inc. As president, Carlton is responsible for the management of MOL’s car carrier, Ro/Ro, tanker and bulk cargo sectors operating throughout the Caribbean, North, Central and South America. Mr. Carlton resides at Mitsui O.S.K. Bulk Shipping (USA) corporate headquarters located in Jersey City, NJ. The appointment of Carlton to the helm of MOL’s western hemisphere bulk operation is consistent with the company’s overall global business strategy. Carlton brings 22 years of bulk shipping experience to Mitsui O.S.K. Bulk Shipping (USA). For the past nine years, Carlton was stationed in Japan.

American V. Ships Awarded Ship Management Contract

American V. Ships, a full-service international marine transportation management and operations organization has been named the technical manager of three vessels to be chartered to the recently established Wallenius and Wilhelmsen joint venture, Wallenius-Wilhemsen Line. American V. Ships will continue managing 5,600-unit Faust and 5,600-unit Fidelio, which have been under its management and under U.S. flag since 1989, as well as another vessel, Tanabata, newly entered into U.S. registry. American V. Ships is providing its full range of technical management services to include operating, crewing, budget control, purchasing and quality assurance.
