Rickmers-Linie, the Hamburg-based liner carrier for break bulk, heavy lifts and project cargoes has again been chosen by Kirow for the transportation of railway cranes from Hamburg to Xingang. The shipment in August marked the continuation of a long-standing relationship between the two companies. The shipment contained six cranes of the type KRC 2880, with 20 more units of the type KRC 1680 are to follow into 2015. Kirow has been a long-term supplier of the Chinese railways. The company has already delivered a number of railway cranes for the ever expanding railway network in China.

Extraordinary shipments are a common sight at the Wallmann terminal in Hamburg. The breakbulk terminal, in which Rickmers-Linie holds a share of just over 25 per cent, specialises in the handling of out-of-gauge, heavy lift and project cargo. At the end of September 2010, a particularly unusual cargo was loaded onto the multipurpose vessel Rickmers Jakarta: three rail-mounted cranes manufactured by Kirow AG en route for the Far East. The shipment is bound for Xingang, China, where it is scheduled to arrive on 24 November 2010.

Port of Hamburg, 310 Tonne Turbine

The second largest gas turbine ever manufactured by Siemens in Berlin was recently loaded onto the breakbulk vessel Rickmers Jakarta at the Wallmann-Terminal in Hamburg for shipment to Singapore. Weighing 310 tonnes, the turbine is able to generate electricity in an extremely efficient and therefore environmentally friendly manner. It is to be installed in a new gas and steam turbine power station in the island state, which is due to start operations in 2010 and can claim an energy efficiency of 80 percent.

Heavyweight to China via Hamburg

As a manufacturer of rollers, the Siegen-based Gontermann-Peipers company is a long-standing customer of the Rickmers Line. But it was not until this February that the weight of a roller topped the 250 ton limit. Based in Hamburg, Rickmers is a specialist in the worldwide consignment of general and project cargo as well as heavy-lift freight. The company was responsible for sending the 254 ton roller on its way to China. The roller was loaded onto the Rickmers Hamburg at Hamburg's Wallmann Terminal. The ship is equipped with special cranes for handling heavy goods.
