RightShip Appoints New CEO
RightShip, the worldâs leading maritime risk management and environmental assessment organisation, has appointed its new CEO. Martin Crawford-Brunt will replace outgoing CEO Warwick Norman who announced his decision to step down from the position in 2017. Crawford-Brunt takes up his new post on 12 March 2018 and brings more than 20 years of maritime sector experience to RightShip. For the past decade he has held senior positions around the world, with a track record of successfully building businesses and delivering increased value to ship owners. He joins RightShip from DNV GL where he was responsible for leading significant change, transforming its business model and introducing innovative services. Martin will initially be based at RightShipâs London office.
COP21 - 2 billion Tonnes of Goods Shipped Using GHG Rating
Market-led solution reduces shippingâs carbon dioxide emissions. Ahead of COP21, 26 of the 35 charterers that include vessel efficiency in their supply chain selection have come forward to highlight their proactive measures on climate change. By using the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Rating to find the more efficient vessels these industry leaders are using their influence to incite change in the maritime industry by rewarding ship owners that prioritise efficiency. Developed in 2010 in response to customer demand, the GHG Emissions Rating is a tool developed by RightShip, the maritime risk management specialist. The tool is available free of charge to all RightShip customers and at ShippingEfficiency.org and allows charterers and other stakeholders to assess the efficiency of vessels.
Odfjell's Tanker Overhaul Seeks to Slash Emissions by 20%
Norwegian tanker shipper Odfjell announced it is upgrading the propulsion systems aboard 19 of its chemical tanker vessels in a move that aims to reduce its fuel consumption and emissions by up to 20 percent. The upgrades, which include the retrofit of new energy efficient propeller blades and rudder-bulbs, as well as technical improvements to the shipsâ main engines, turbo chargers and shaft generators, will place Odfjellâs vessels among the most energy efficient chemical tankers in the world, the shipper said.
IMO Urged to Provide Access to Efficiency Data

Canadian Ports Offer Financial Incentives for Energy Efficiency
Canadaâs two largest west coast ports are now both offering financial incentives to shipowners based on the âA to Gâ Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) rating, which benchmarks the energy efficiency of the international shipping fleet. Port Metro Vancouverâs âEco-Actionâ Program and Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA)âs âGreen Waveâ Program will reward the most efficient vessels that enter the ports. PRPAâs Green Wave Program has already received 19 vessel entries during its first two weeks, with 11 of these vessels using the A-G rating.

Cargill Takes stake in RightShip
The ship vetting company RightShip Pty Ltd confirmed that Cargill has acquired a one third stake in the company. Shares were sold in equal amounts by founding partners, BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto. Cargill, the international food, agriculture and risk management company, is one of the worldâs major users of shipping, especially dry bulk vessels.
