Europe Establishes Waterborne TP

The European Commission and Member States will establish a co-programed partnership zero-emission waterborne transport in the framework of Horizon Europe (the EU’s future research and innovation program).According to a press note, Waterborne Technology Platform partnership will allow the strategic European waterborne transport sector to develop knowledge, technologies and solutions that will enable zero-emission shipping for all ship types and ship services.Within the Green Deal for Europe, the greening of waterborne transport (i.e. shipping and inland navigation) will take a central place. Waterborne Signs MoU with Hydrogen Europe

Hydrogen Europe and the Waterborne Technology Platform signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 13 May 2019  to foster opportunities of hydrogen based fuels as part of zero-emission waterborne transport.The European research and innovation platform for waterborne industries said in a press release that this MoU will help both parties to identify opportunities for hydrogen-related technologies in order to reduce the significant emissions of waterborne transport.Furthermore, the MoU will help them both to explore the contribution of the waterborne sector in scaling up the development of hydrogen technologies in ports and industrial zones, in synergy with other sectors (e.g.

Maritime Security Experts Convene in San Diego

Maritime security experts from federal, state and local jurisdictions are meeting in San Diego this week as part of Maritime Security 2015 West. Attendees from Turkey, Japan, United Arab Emirates, France, U.K., and New Zealand joined participants from across the U.S. and Canada to examine challenges and share solutions. A special tour of the Unified Port of San Diego was conducted to offer a glimpse behind the scenes of some of the port’s busy terminals handling commodities ranging from soda ash to bananas to automobiles.
