Ben Reed is a mechanical engineer from the U.K. now leading New Zealand-based waterjet manufacturer HamiltonJet as managing director.Raised in Shropshire, Reed graduated from Loughborough University of Technology in 1995 and later became a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering. He’s worked for a U.K. gas utility company developing natural-gas-powered engines; Ford Motor Company as a Systems Analyst, and 17 years for Caterpillar UK in diesel engine and transmission development for off-highway machinery and military products…

HamiltonJet Debuts JETanchor Positioning System

Global waterjet manufacturer HamiltonJet has launched its latest vessel positioning system, JETanchor. Developed from the blueARROW controls platform JETanchor is the newest addition to the HamiltonJet controls’ product range, developed and tested over the past 18 months, in response to strong market demand for small vessel positioning systems. Aimed predominantly at Pilot boats, Fireboats, SAR, Patrol, Survey, DSV and small Offshore Crewboats, the JETanchor system provides a cost effective “dynamic-positioning-type” system for smaller vessels. HamiltonJet Global Marketing Manager Albear Montocchio said, “The product has undergone rigorous and extensive testing on two commercial vessels, an offshore crew-transfer vessel and a coastal survey vessel.

Palfinger Chooses NAMJet Waterjets

Netherlands-based Palfinger Boats has launched the first of two Damen-designed FRSQ 1200 fast-rescue/oil response vessels. Built in Harderwijk, Netherlands, the 12-meter (40-foot) vessel is powered by dual 440-horsepower (hp) Yanmar diesels mated to twin NAMJet TJ431 HH waterjets. Designed to be carried aboard larger ships as a “daughter-craft,” the 9.6-ton vessel’s primary mission is oil spill response, which will make exceptional use of the vessel’s 4.1-ton bollard pull capacity.

NAMJet Wins Huge US Army Bridge Boat Propulsion Contract

Marine waterjet manufacturer NAMJet says it has been contracted to provide propulsion systems for Birdon America's US Army Bridge Erection Boat (BEB) 400-boat replacement platform. At the same time NAMJet announces its manufacturing and operational HQ has moved to Denver, Colorado. Bridge Erection Boats are primarily used to provide propulsion and maneuverable thrust to support temporary floating bridges often made necessary when existing bridge crossings have been destroyed in military conflict.

HamiltonJet HT900s for World’s Biggest High Speed Crew Boat

Waterjet manufacturer HamiltonJet recently got great news when four HT900 waterjets were selected for Incat Crowther’s latest project – a first-of-type 70 meter Catamaran Fast Crew Boat for operations in the Caspian Sea oil industry in Azerbaijan. When completed, this vessel will be the world’s largest high speed crew boat operating in the global oil industry. It will also be the largest vessel HamiltonJet has been involved in to date, and will further showcase waterjet’s performance and maneuvering benefits over other forms of propulsion in this demanding marine sector.

Jet Edge Awarded U.S. Patent

Jet Edge, Inc. has announced  that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued the waterjet manufacturer a patent for a high pressure fluid sealing mechanism designed by Jet Edge R&D Engineer Michael Wheeler. Jet Edge’s proprietary high pressure fluid sealing mechanism (U.S. Patent 8,333,387) improves waterjet seal life by providing robust Metal-on-Metal sealing without the use of conventional plastic seals. This technology uses two convex curved surfaces in single line contact with one another to seal ultra-high pressure (UHP) fluid at static pressures up to 130,000 psi.

HamiltonJet HT Orders Strong

Waterjet manufacturer HamiltonJet said it has had considerable commercial success with its new HT series since the first model was introduced less than two years ago with 60 units being sold to date. So far 18 HT1000s have been delivered to South Korea for Coast Guard Patrol boats, with a further 10 jets scheduled for delivery this financial year. A large patrol boat being constructed in the USA at present also utilises twin HT1000. Seven twin shipsets of HT810s have been ordered for patrol boat projects in Taiwan with the first of these recently exceeding expectations at sea trial.
