MAN Energy Solutions SE announced changes to its executive board slated to take effect January 1.Dr. Gunnar Stiesch will take over the Technology department, which was previously headed by CEO Dr. Uwe Lauber in a dual role, and will join the board as the new Chief Technology Officer. The 52-year-old engineer was previously Head of Engine Development at the company and has worked for the company in responsible R&D functions for almost 15 years.Dr. Uwe Lauber, will in future assume responsibility for Salesā€¦

MAN Unveils New Dual-fuel Four-stroke Engine

MAN Energy Solutions has announced the launch of its MAN 49/60DF engine type at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg. The latest addition to its four-stroke engine portfolio, the dual-fuel engine is capable of running on LNG, diesel and HFO as well as a number of more sustainable fuels including biofuel blends and synthetic natural gas. In a live-stream presentation from its Copenhagen Research Center, MAN Energy Solutions has demonstrated advanced dual-fuel engine technology for low-cost, fuel-efficient operation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and other vessels where low capital outlay is a priority. MAN Energy Solutions has has demonstrated its latest low-speed, dual-fuel engineā€”an MAN B&W ME-GA type designed for liquefied natural gas (LNG)/fuel-oil runningā€”at a ceremony live-streamed from its Copenhagen Research Center on Thursday. The new engine is an Otto-cycle variant of the companyā€™s ME-GI engine.As its pre-mixed combustion results in low NOx emissions, the ME-GA engine is inherently Tier II and Tier III compliant in gas-operation mode. Everything about the HMM Algeciras is big, including the power output of its MAN B&W 11G95ME-C engine ā€“ the mightiest ever built by Germany-based MAN Energy Solutions.The 23,964 TEU containership is the largest ever built, recently launched for South Korean shipping company HMM at the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) Okpo shipyard in Geoje, Korea. Hapag-Lloyd pilot gas-conversion leads the way for emissions reduction and decarbonizationMAN Energy Solutions has signed a contract for the conversion of a 15,000 TEU container vessel to dual-fuel operation. The container vessel MV SAJIR is owned by Hapag-Lloyd, a leading liner shipping companies, and normally serves a route from Asia to northern Europe via the Suez canal. The pilot project will entail the conversion of an existing, HFO-burning MAN B&W 9S90ME-C engine to a dual-fuel MAN B&W ME-GI (-Gas Injection) prime mover capable of running on HFO and LNG.

The sulfur emission control areas (SECAs) in place in North-America and Northern Europe, in combination with the upcoming global 0.5% limit on sulfur in 2020 (or 2025) and similar EU limits in 2020, call for alternative fuels as a means for compliance. BW LPG Chooses New MAN B&W ME-LGIP Technology

MAN Energy Solutions has announced the first retrofit orders for its new MAN B&W ME-LGIP LGP-powered engine.The contract with Oslo-listed BW LPG involves the worldā€™s first retrofitting of four MAN B&W 6G60ME-C9.2 HFO-burning engines to 6G60ME-C9.5-LGIP LPG-propelled dual-fuel engines, plus options for further retrofits in the future. MAN Diesel & Turbo has brought its new 45/60CR and ME-LGI engines, as well as its innovative HP-SCR emissions reduction technology to Marintec 2017, which is being held this week in Shanghai. MAN recently revealed its new flagship engine, the successor to its 48/60CR engine in the companyā€™s 4x line of high-performance diesel engines. The MAN 45/60CR marine diesel engine will initially be available as 12V and 14V versions that boast power outputs, of 15,600 and 18,200 kW respectively, with inline versions following at a later stage.

Canadian engineering firm Aspin Kemp and Associates Inc. (AKA) and German based engine and turbomachinery market leader MAN Diesel & Turbo SE have finalized an agreement between the two companies whereby MAN Diesel & Turbo steps in as a 40 percent shareholder in AKA. Through this new partnership, AKA said it will look to build its innovative potential with MAN in a broader market for power and energy solutions. Company co-founder Jason Aspin remains a controlling shareholder and CEO of AKA. Co-founder Neale Kemp has retired from active business operations.

Stena Line Signs Up for MAN Online Service

MAN Diesel & Turbo recently signed a contract with Stena Line to provide its online service to two vessels. The Stena Hollandica and Stena Britannica are both conventional passenger-and-vehicle superferries that sail the daily route between the Hook of Holland and Harwich and are each powered by 4 × MAN 48/60CR engines. Dan Sten Olsson, CEO and owner of the Stena Sphere, and Bjarne Koitrand, Stena Line Technical Director, visited Augsburg, Germany to meet MAN Diesel & Turboā€™s Dr Uwe Lauber, CEO, and Wayne Jones, Chief Sales Officer and agree the new deal.

MAN D&T, CCS Ink Collaboration Deal at Marintec

MAN Diesel & Turbo signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement with the China Classification Society (CCS) on December 1, 2015, during Marintec China 2015. The Agreement provides for the strengthening of the cooperation between the two companies in Intelligent Ship research with regards to data exchange, online monitoring and online service. MAN PrimeServ informs it has won the contract from Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) to retrofit the turbochargers aboard four cruise liners from its fleet. The contract covers the retrofit of a total of 30 turbochargers aboard four vessels ā€“ two operated by Royal Caribbean International, and two operated by Pullmantur, a wholly-owned RCCL subsidiary, along with attachment kits and technical support. The vessels Grandeur of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas ā€“ both equipped with four x 12V48/60 MAN engines ā€“ will be retrofitted with 16 x TCA55 turbochargersā€¦

MAN Selects Rud to Head PrimeServ Diesel

MAN Diesel & Turboā€™s executive board has appointed Per Rud as the new head of PrimeServ Diesel.   Rud will assume his new role on January 1, 2016 and takes over from Wayne Jones, who will join the executive board as the new chief sales officer.   Rud has led PrimeServ Diesel in Copenhagen for the past five years. Before joining MAN Diesel & Turbo in 2010 as vice president and head of the two-stroke Service and After Sales business, Rud has been working with the DISA Group, a provider of foundry technology, for more than a decade. He is a member of the board of directors at Union Engineering in Denmark.
