Huntington Ingalls Awarded Additional Funds For CVN 79 Construction

Huntington Ingalls Industries informs that its Newport News Shipbuilding division has received a US$1.295 billion extension to a previously awarded construction preparation contract for the aircraft carrier 'John F. Kennedy' (CVN 79). The contract extension enables Newport News to complete an additional 343 structural units and purchase the majority of the remaining material for the ship, including items such as valves, controllers, pumps and raw materials. Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) said that its Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division has received a $43.4 million modification to a previously awarded contract from the U.S. Navy for purchase of materials for the construction of the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), the second ship in the Navy's newest class of carriers. The funds awarded to NNS will be used to purchase major, long-lead-time equipment, such as the ship's elevator machinery and large pumps.

HII Wins $504m Contract Modification for Gerald R. Ford

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) received a $323.6m, cost plus incentive fee contract extension for continuation of work on the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier CVN 79. The company's Shipbuilding sector in Newport News, Va. is the prime contractor. Work performed under this contract includes the continuation of ship design activities, procurement of long-lead-time materials to support construction and advanced construction work on select parts of the ship. CVN 79 is the second ship of the new Gerald R. Ford class and has not yet been named.

Northrop Grumman’s U.S. Navy Contract, Engineering & Support

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) subsidiary AMSEC LLC has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy for engineering services and technical, logistics, maintenance and installation/alteration support on cargo and weapons handling systems. The cost-plus-fixed-fee task order contains a base period with four one-year option periods, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to approximately $30.5m. Work will commence December 2010 and be performed on U.S. Navy and Military Sealift Command ships in various locations on the U.S. East Coast, West Coast and Japan. If all options are exercised, the work is expected to be completed by December 2015.The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Philadelphia Detachment is the contracting activity.

Shipbuilders at Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Shipbuilding sector in Newport News, Va., signed a 15-ft banner in preparation for the upcoming keel laying ceremony for the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78). The banner will be on display at the ceremony on Nov. 14. Susan Ford Bales, the daughter of the late President Gerald R. Ford, will serve as ship's sponsor and keel authenticator for the ceremony. Bales will authenticate the keel by chalking her initials onto a metal plate. Her initials will then be welded onto the plate.

The carrier, which has yet to be been named, is the second ship of the Gerald R. Ford class.
