Korean engine manufacturer HSD Engine is to offer ABB’s diagnostics and advisory software Tekomar XPERT to shipowners operating its two-stroke and four-stroke marine engines.Tekomar XPERT is a digital performance optimization platform applicable to any engine that is designed to help shipping companies achieve substantial fuel savings and greenhouse gas emission reductions. ABS Launches "My DigitalFleet" for Marine and Offshore Operators

One of the world's largest maritime classification societies American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) on Tuesday launched a web-based digital platform that "delivers real-time data-driven insights to improve fleet efficiency, reduce costs and help manage risks," for marine and offshore operators.The platform, called My DigitalFleet, is, according to ABS, a significant step forward for the digitalization of the maritime industry.Christopher J. If autonomous vessels are the future of maritime shipping, then cyber threats may be its Achilles heel. Congested shipping, restricted visibility, limited maneuverability, and intensive docking activities all contribute to port hazards – 42 percent of EU reported marine accidents (injury/death/damage to ships) took place in port areas and 44 percent of workboat fatalities occurred on Tugs. Autonomous shipping should provide numerous benefits including increased safety by relieving crewmembers of unsafe and repetitious tasks.

Swiss Climate EcoCare, Korean Register MoU for IMO DCS Services

The Classification Society Korean Register (KR) and Swiss Climate EcoCare GmbH has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to provide enhanced International Maritime Organization (IMO) Data Collection System (DCS) services to the maritime industry.According to a release, the MoU was signed in Hamburg, Germany on 22nd Nov 2018 in presence of Philipp Ahrenkiel, Managing Director at Swiss Climate EcoCare GmbH and Michael Suhr, Technical & Commercial Director at Korean Register, Germany. The MoU was signed with a special focus on mutual cooperation to provide IMO DCS services to the maritime industry.The International Maritime Organization has recently implemented a carbon dioxide emissions regime.

Bureau Veritas has introduced the first phase of My Fuel Consumption, a cloud-based and secure web application for desktop, mobile and tablet that aims to make compliance easy, with a digitized process throughout the various steps of IMO-DCS (declaration of fuel consumption) and EU MRV regulations (CO2 emissions).All ships of 5,000 GT and above must submit IMO-DCS plan to receive a confirmation of compliance, from their flag states or delegated Recognized Organizations (ROs) before January 1, 2019.

MobileOps, Inc. said it has signed a deal with Australia’s Hedland Launch Service Pty Ltd. The marine services and vessel operator will utilize the MobileOps Platform across its Port Hedland Harbor based fleet to bolster safety, maintenance and regulatory initiatives. Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) announced Feb. 10 that the Navy's comprehensive enlisted career guides, Learning and Development Roadmaps (LaDR), have transitioned to a Web application that is easily-accessed and instantly updatable. Available through Navy Knowledge Online (NKO) and Navy Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (Navy COOL), LaDRs are a vital tool that help guide enlisted Sailors throughout their career advancement, and are available for all enlisted ratings and paygrades. India Okays Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Policy

To promote Government of India’s ambitious ‘Make in India’ programme and to encourage domestic shipbuilding by providing a level playing field vis-a-vis foreign shipyards, the Government had approved the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Policy for Indian Shipyards in December 2015. This policy provides Rs. 4000 Crores (USD 773mln) financial assistance to shipyards for 10 years for contracts secured between 01.04.2016 and 31.03.2026 (including these dates). The Shipyards Association of India had raised certain issues with regard to the previous web application which had been launched in June 2016 for processing applications for financial assistance under the policy.
