IHC Takes Majority Stakes in Tompkins

Royal IHC and Tompkins UK Limited are strengthening their strategic cooperation with IHC’s acquisition of a majority stake in Tompkins, the parent company of Modus Seabed Intervention and a partner in the TI Geosciences joint venture (that IHC and Tompkins created in 2015). Modus is a specialist provider of remote and autonomous technologies for subsea and seabed intervention. It has industry-leading capabilities in remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services and currently deploys a fleet of work class ROVs and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in construction and drill support, as well as survey and inspection activities. With its fleet of trenching ROVs and systems, Modus also offers seabed intervention solutions in cable and pipeline trenching, and seabed earthmoving, among others.

OPTION Attracts New Partner for Oil Recovery

OPTION (Optimizing Oil Production by Novel Technology Integration) aims to significantly improve simulation tools for the prediction and control of the flow between the horizontal wells and the reservoir – with a focus on enhancing oil recovery. As part of their investment in the project, DONG Energy will contribute with the complete subsurface dataset from the Siri and Stine fields, located in the Danish sector of the North Sea. Dr Michael Kragh Engkilde, Subsurface Manager of Siri Asset at DONG Energy says: “With our ambition to extend the life of the Siri Area, we are continually investigating opportunities for enhancing production. The joint industry project breeds a close link between industry and academia and as such helps to progress research exploitation and knowledge transfer.

Murray Selected to Lead ICoTA

Oil and gas industry body, the Intervention & Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA) European Chapter, has appointed Former vice-chair Kelly Murray as the new chair and vice-chair. Murray will be the first women to take the helm as chair of the organization in the chapter’s 20-year history, while fellow committee member Andrew Louden has been appointed as the new vice-chair. Murray becomes chair after spending five years as an ICoTA committee member where she has played a pivotal role increasing awareness of the organization within the industry and the wider community.

Bibby Subsea Expands in Houston

As part of its continuing global growth strategy, subsea installation contractor Bibby Offshore has announced the opening of a new division and international base in Houston. The company, that also has bases in Aberdeen, Liverpool, Singapore and Trinidad, has initially invested over £3million into the new division, Bibby Subsea Inc. As part of the expansion plan, Andrew Duncan will relocate to Houston, from his existing position of business and commercial director at the company’s Aberdeen HQ, to president and managing director of Bibby Subsea.

Deadline Looms to Apply for Subsea Tech Funding

ITF is calling on technology developers to come forward with innovative solutions to drilling, well intervention and subsea challenges, with the potential for successful proposals to receive up to 100% funding. Submission deadlines are fast approaching for three global calls for proposals, following the identification of key priorities at a series of Technology Challenge Workshops (TCWs) by ITF members earlier this year. The calls for drilling and well intervention solutions follows on from two workshops held in Amsterdam earlier this year, where a number of operators and service companies identified the shared challenges where they would like to see innovative technologies developed.
