Allseas’ heavy lift vessel Pioneering Spirit has completed a removal campaign of processing and accommodation topsides and flare jackets as part of the Tyra Redevelopment Project for Total E&P Denmark. L&T Bags Offshore Contract from ONGC

L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, has signed an offshore contract for ‘Bassein Development 3 Well Platform & Pipeline Project’ with Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Larsen and Toubro stated in a stock exchange announcement that the contract is valued at approximately 1,483 crores (approximately 229 Million USD). The order, won against International Competitive Bidding, encompasses ‘EPCIC’ – Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning - for the project. The EPCIC scope of the project includes three new wellhead platforms, 23- kilometer subsea pipeline, composite subsea power cable, clamp-on works on an existing platform and modification work on nine existing platforms in the western offshore basin in India.

Solstad Wins Contract with CUEL Thailand

Norway’s Solstad Offshore ASA has been been awarded a contract with CUEL Limited, Thailand for the derrick lay barge DLB Norce Endeavour in the Gulf of Thailand. According to the contract the 2011-built unit will be used for the provision of transportation and installation for Phase 4 of JDA Block B-17-01. The DLB Norce Endeavour will install 3 new wellhead platforms, 3 subsea pipelines and host tie-ins for CUEL Limited with the offshore work to start in Q3-2017 and comple in Q1-2018 with a combined forecast utilization of the DLB Norce Endeavour of around 60 days. Chevron Hires Norce Endeavour for Thailand Ops

Solstad Offshore ASA (SOFF) has fixed the 2011-built 18,000 dwt crane barge Norce Endeavour to Chevron for work in Thailand next year for around 200 days. Solstad has received confirmation from Chevron in Thailand for the 2016 Offshore Installation Campaign utilizing its Derrick Lay Barge (DLB) Norce Endeavour. Norce Endeavour, which can accommodate 256 people, will install multiple new wellhead platforms and subsea pipelines for Chevron in the Gulf of Thailand. Kvaerner in Statoil Unmanned Platform Project

Kvaerner say that Statoil has awarded it a concept study related to a standardised, unmanned dry tree wellhead platform for the Oseberg Future Development project. The concept is focused on minimisation of facilities, equipment and costs down to water depths of 150 meters and may be a cost effective solution compared to a conventional subsea tie-back solution. Kvaerner have already for some time worked on developing a cost efficient, standardised wellhead platform concept called "Subsea on a stick."  The new wellhead platforms could both increase recovery and utilise the new generations of jack-up drilling rigs, as well as reducing development costs.

ABB Controls Production Systems Aboard Giant FPSO

Floating Production Storage & Offloading ship uses ABB systems to control entire production from reservoir to wellhead to vessel. FPSO Peregrino, one of the biggest, most technologically advanced oil production ships in the world, was converted at a cost of more than US$1-billion from a VLCC tankship to function as a FPSO having been acquired by Statoil and permanently moored off the coast of Brazil. This FPSO vessel has a daily production capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil, 350,000 barrels of liquid and 7.3 million standard cubic feet of gas.

OSX Offshore Has Newbuildings in Brazil, Asian Shipyards

OSX, an EBX Group Company of integrated solutions for offshore units and services, received an order from its anchor client OGX Petróleo e Gás for construction and charter of two new Wellhead Platforms, WHP-3 and WHP-4, pursuant to the Strategic Cooperation Agreement entered into by the companies. The two new units will be built by OSX Construção Naval S/A in the Açu Shipbuilding Unit, which is currently being implemented in the northern region of the State of Rio de Janeiro, and are destined to meet OGX’s oil and gas production program.

EMAS Wins Chevron Contract

EMAS' Offshore Construction division, EMAS AMC, was awarded a contract by Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production Ltd, Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd and Chevron Pattani Ltd. This award will see EMAS AMC installing a number of wellhead platforms and associated pipelines in the Gulf of Thailand. This project is expected to commence in early 2012 for a three year firm period (2012 – 2014) with an option period for an additional two years (2015 – 2016), which in aggregate is estimated to increase the orderbook for EMAS AMC to over $600m. Mr Lionel Lee, EMAS’s Managing Director, said: “This award is an important milestone for us and reaffirms the growing relationship that we have with Chevron in the Asia Pacific region”.

Norway's Prince Officially Opens Peregrino

Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon officially opened the Statoil-operated Peregrino oil field offshore Brazil today in a ceremony aboard the floating production storage and offloading ship (FPSO). The event was attended by relevant authorities and international journalists. Crown Prince Haakon was accompanied by Norwegian petroleum and energy minister Ola Borten Moe, Statoil CEO Helge Lund, Norwegian ambassador to Brazil Turid Eusebio, and Brazilian mines and energy minister Edison Lobão. The guests were first led on a tour of the FPSO, followed by an official opening ceremony.

Offshore Access System Supports Qatar Project

Offshore Solutions B.V. (OSBV), the joint venture between AMEC and Cofely Nederland N.V., has commenced operations of its Offshore Access System (OAS) to support personnel transfer to and from the offshore component of the Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) project in Qatar. Pearl GTL, the world’s largest GTL plant, is being jointly developed by Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Shell. OSBV, which completed sea trials in December, was awarded the contract by Qatar Shell GTL Ltd for three years, with an option to extend the contract for a further two years.

Sinochem Becomes Partner in Peregrino Field

Statoil ASA (OSE: STL, NYSE: STO) has agreed to sell 40% of the Peregrino field offshore Brazil to Sinochem Group. Statoil maintains 60% ownership and the operatorship of the field which is set to start production in early 2011. “The transaction confirms the high quality of the Peregrino asset, reflecting Statoil's value added through the field development. The transaction demonstrates Statoil’s ability to leverage its industrial competence developed at the Norwegian Continental Shelf, and realize value for our shareholders.

CNOOC Announces Startup of New Platform

CNOOC Limited announced that Platform C of Phase of Penglai (PL) 19-3 has come on stream successfully. This is the first Wellhead Platform starting production in Phase â…¡development of PL19-3. The development facilities in Phaseâ…¡of PL19-3 include: 5 wellhead platforms, a central processing facility and a world-class FPSO, with a designed processing capacity of 190,000 barrels of oil per day. PL19-3 oil field is located in Block 11/05 in Bohai Bay, the largest oil field offshore China currently. The field is jointly developed by CNOOC Ltd. and ConocoPhillips China Inc. (COPC). CNOOC Ltd. holds 51% interest of PL 19-3 and the Operator, COPC holds the rest 49%. Phase of PL 19-3 has started production successfully in December 2002.

Keppel Hitachi Zosen Delivers Semi-tender Rig

Keppel Hitachi Zosen (KHZ) has delivered a Semi-Submersible Self-Erecting Tender Rig (SSETR) to Smedvig Asia Ltd (Smedvig). The SSETR was named West Alliance by Mrs. Patricia Chan, wife of Mr. Chan Heng Wah, Drilling Manager of Esso Production Malaysia Inc, at a naming ceremony held in Keppel Shipyard on September 29, 2001. West Alliance has a one plus one optional year drilling contract with Esso Malaysia, which is scheduled to commence in early November this year. Following the exercise of its option, Smedvig will own 100 per cent of West Alliance, and bring the total capital expenditure of the rig to about $85 million. West Alliance represents the newest generation of SSETRs, incorporating the latest technology and equipment.

Outlook for Floating Production Systems

Floating production has evolved to a mature technology that opens for development oil and gas reservoirs that would be otherwise impossible or uneconomic to tap. The technology enables production far beyond the depth constraints of fixed platforms, generally considered to be 1,400 ft. (426.7 m), and provides a flexible solution for developing short-lived fields with marginal reserves and fields in remote locations where installation of a fixed facility would be difficult. Floating production systems vary greatly in appearance - from ship-shape FPSO vessels to multi hull production semis to cylindrical shaped production spars.

Smedvig to Build New Semi-Tender

Smedvig has entered into an agreement with Keppel Shipyard in Singapore for the purpose of building a new semi-submersible self-erecting tender rig (semi-tender). Total capital expenditure for the new semi-tender is estimated at $ 94 million, of which Smedvig's share is approximately $ 29 million. The agreement with Keppel Shipyard is based on the principle that Keppel shall build and own the the semi-submersible hull, and Smedvig shall own the derrick equipment set. Smedvig shall for a period of ten years be responsible for marketing, management and operation of the unit. The agreement includes an option for Smedvig to purchase the semi-submersible hull during the ten-year period at a pre-agreed price.

Global to Install Platforms and Pipelines for ChevronTexaco

Global Industries, Ltd. announced its subsidiary Global Industries Limited Mauritius has executed a contract to undertake platform and pipeline installation work in the Gulf of Thailand for Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd., a subsidiary of ChevronTexaco Corporation. This work forms part of ChevronTexaco’s Minimum Facilities Project (MFP) to expand oil and gas production in Thailand. Global will be responsible for installing five wellhead platforms and four pipelines as well as performing associated tie-in, free span correction, and testing activities. The offshore work will be performed in two phases to accommodate ChevronTexaco’s construction schedule and optimize Global’s barge utilization.

KHZ To Buy Semisubmersible

Keppel Hitachi Zosen Limited (KHZ) is in discussions with Smedvig Asia regarding the latter's intention to exercise its option to purchase KHZ's interest in the semi-submersible tender rig, West Alliance, presently under construction in Keppel Shipyard. The purchase price is approximately $61.5 million. Smedvig has proposed to exercise the option after delivery of the tender rig and after commencement of operations under its drilling contract with Esso Malaysia, which was secured recently and is for a period of one year plus one optional year. Smedvig has announced that start-up of drilling operations is scheduled for early November this year. The construction of West Alliance is proceeding according to schedule.
