ABT-TRAC, WESMAR and SmartCatch Form INOV8V Marine

Roger Fellows, owner of Western Marine Electronics (WESMAR), Arcturus Marine Systems (ABT-TRAC), and SmartCatch, announced Wednesday the formation of a new marine technology company, INOV8V Marine Group, encompassing all three legacy brands.Fellows says combining the three companies produces a more complete, higher-performing product line, with improved service after the sale.“Whether operating pleasure yachts or commercial fishing vessels, our customers demand performance, reliability and aftermarket support,” Fellows said. “INOV8V Marine Group is in a stronger position to deliver than our component brands would be by themselves.”WESMAR has been innovating since introducing the world’s first solid-state sonar in 1965.

New Owner Takes Over at WESMAR

Bruce H. Blakey, founder and President of WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics), has sold his company to local businessman Roger Fellows, effective November 1, 2017. Blakey has sold the company to a new innovator whom he says is poised to take the company and its products to new heights. The name of the company will remain the same. Headquarter operations will remain in Woodinville, Wash. and employees will remain with the company, says its new owner and president Fellows. “WESMAR is impressive,” Fellows said.

Bow Thrusters Ordered for New NYC Ferries

WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics) announced that its heavy duty Bow Thrusters have been selected for three new 165-foot, 600-passenger excursion and sightseeing ferries operated by Circle Line Cruises, the New York City sightseeing company. Circle Line Cruises made the announcement in January as part of its 70th Anniversary celebration. They currently operate a dozen boats in New York Harbor and move more people in the city than anyone else, including thousands of school children and visitors from all around the world.

WESMAR Delivers Thruster to another Fireboat

The "super pumper" fireboat is to enhance San Francisco’s marine fire fighting and response capabilities on water including high-volume water pumping, firefighting, rescue, emergency medical service and patrol in the waters of San Francisco and San Pablo Bays and the Pacific Ocean within five miles of shore and the adjoining inland waterways.

WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics) delivered one of its bow thruster systems to another fireboat this month. This systems will be installed on a ‘super pumper’ for the city of San Francisco. The new fireboat is being built by Vigor Fab, Seattle, a subsidiary of Vigor Industrial, and is scheduled for delivery next year. Per specifications her ability to maneuver and dock in tight situations and to hold steady during fire fighting and rescue operations will be facilitated by WESMAR’s Model V2-20 NS 100 HP stainless steel, dual prop, counter-rotating bow thruster system.

WESMAR to Introduce New Trawl Systems

WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics) announced today they will introduce two new trawl systems and five new sled options at Pacific Marine Expo in Seattle November 20-22 at Century Link Field Event Center. The TCS785 and TCS 385 trawl systems, with sled options, will be on display in Booth 933 along with WESMAR’s line of hull mounted sonar and commercial bow thrusters. Rolling out its largest group of trawl sonar options in its 50-year history, WESMAR is giving trawlers sophisticated electronics with unprecedented information and sleds designed for nets of all sizes.

Large BC Fishing Boat Orders WESMAR Sonar

The newly remodeled trawler arrived in Port Alberni, B.C. in late March and was greeted enthusiastically by the community where she is expected to produce jobs plus attract other fishing boats to the Port. “We hope that once they relocate that others will look to move their boats here,” Pat Deakin, the city’s economic development officer said.

WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics) has announced an order for their powerful Model HD860 sonar for installation on 44-meter factory trawler FV Raw Spirit, the second largest fishing vessel in British Columbia. Built in 1998 in Norway and refitted in Iceland, the FV Raw Spirit is billed as fuel-efficient by her owners, Andersen Seafoods Ltd., Fisher Bay Seafood Ltd, and Canadian Fishing Company. Her Captain, Kelly Andersen, has been working with factory boats for many years, making him the ideal person to take Raw Spirit into the Hake fishery. The 931-gross-ton vessel underwent extensive work.

WESMAR Announces Bow Thruster Order

WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics, Inc.) has announced an order from Hydraquip, Tasmania, Australia, for two commercial bow thruster systems for installation on a steel-hulled car/passenger ferry. The order is for  two WESMAR Model V2-28, 185 HP, counter rotating dual-prop stainless steel bow thruster systems. They will be installed on the 187-foot M/V Queenscliff, a double ended roll-on/roll-off ferry that provides hourly service between the towns of Queensland and Sorento. The Queenscliff has been operating between the two cities since 1993. She accommodates 80 vehicles and 700 passengers.

WESMAR to Introduce New Fin for Yachts

WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics) will introduce a 50-square-foot mega fin at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show on October 27-31 in Florida. Designed for luxury yachts, charter and super yachts, these new fins, coupled with WESMAR’s triple axis digital DSP4800 control electronics, are designed to reduce up to 90% of vessel roll. They are rugged with a neutrally buoyant design that adds lift, and are designed with added strength and reliability to meet the high performance requirements of vessels up to 250+ feet.

WESMAR $1.2M Egyptian Contract

WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics) announced that the $1.2m contract they have to equip Egyptian built vessels with their all stainless steel counter rotating dual prop bow thrusters for highly controlled maneuvering in restricted situations, is progressing on schedule despite the political unrest in Egypt. The  100-meter Watania 202 has entered service in the Nile River, joining  Wantania 201, which launched late last year. Both vessels are part of the Nile Cargo Project, which is on target to restore commercial barge travel along the Nile River and relieve Egypt’s highway congestion and reduce high transportation costs.The entire project will eventually see 62 of these state-of-the-art, fuel efficient, and environmetnally friendly vessels on the Nile, says WESMAR President Bruce H.

Hispano Radio, WESMAR Dealer in Spain

WESMAR (Western Marine Electronics) of Woodinville, announced the appointment of Hispano Radio Maritima, S.A. as dealer for WESMAR’s commercial fishing, pleasure boat, and government business in Spain. The arrangement is for exclusive representation for WESMAR except for the Galician coastal fishing fleet. Hispano Radio has a large sales and service force. They are headquartered in Madrid and operate eight branch sales and service offices throughout the country.

WESMAR Produces Stabilizer Video

Western Marine Electronics (WESMAR) has just released a new and informative roll fin stabilizer video that goes into detail about stabilizer operation. Co-sponsored with one of WESMAR’s local dealers (LaConner Maritime Service out of LaConner, WA) the eight-minute television segment was produced by Captain’s Log™: The Boating TV Show and was aired in late February on Western Washington stations. The owners of the 56-ft. Selene, R-Turn, graciously allowed the use of their boat to demonstrate the effect that the stabilizer has on vessels experiencing rough waters. With the stabilizers deactivated and then activated, viewers can see an obvious difference between the rolling vessel when chopping through rough water to the activated system offering a calm and comfortable ride.

118-ft. Yacht Designed to Travel to 70 Knots

Three Vericor Power Systems' TF50 marine aeroderivative gas turbines have been selected to power the 118 Wallypower high-speed yacht being built by Intermarine Shipyard, Sarzana, Italy for Wally Yacht. This is Wally Yacht's first foray into high-speed power yachts, and the company's initial application of gas turbines. Wally Yacht, based in Monte Carlo, Monaco, is a world-renowned designer of high-speed sailing and power yachts. The 118-ft. yacht will feature three TF50 gas turbines in a Combined Diesel Or Gas (CODOG) turbine configuration. Two TF50s will be used as side or "wing" engines, with one small auxiliary diesel engine connected to each wing engine. The diesels will provide for very slow maneuvering only.
