Aker Arctic Bronze Propellers for Ice-class Ships

Bronze has been the preferred material for open water and low ice class ship propellers for decades, said Finnish engineering company Aker Arctic that operates an ice model test basin in Helsinki."Few years ago, Aker Arctic began investigating the possibility of using it also in high ice class vessels. In November 2018, the first bronze propellers based on the new strength dimensioning criteria were installed on the Finnish ice class 1A ASD tug Calypso," said a statement from the designer of icebreakers.While bronze is not as strong as stainless steel, it has a number of benefits in marine applications such as good resistance against corrosion and cavitation damage. The material is also easy to work with both during manufacturing as well as when carrying out maintenance and repairs.

New Floating Dock Heads to Klaipeda

The world's largest heavy transport vessel Dockwise Vanguard is transporting a new floating dock from Montenegro to Lithuania. The floating dock was acquired in June 2016 and began its journey to Klaipeda, where it will be installed at the Western Shipyard owned by BLRT Grupp. In the beginning of August the 11,000 ton floating dock was loaded onto the Dockwise Vanguard, world's only vessel with a deadweight of 110,000 tons for carrying heavy loads and floating oil and gas platforms.

Western Baltija Shipbuilding delivers multi-purpose cargo ship

Western Baltija Shipbuilding - a part of Western Shipyard which in its turn belongs to the biggest Estonian concern BLRT Grupp has finished a turnkey project and delivered a multi-purpose cargo vessel Anetta. According to Fjodor Berman, the Chairman of the Board of BLRT Grupp, building vessels from scratch, starting from the elaboration of a vessel’s concept and ending with its launching, has been the ultimate goal of the concern all these years. Multi-purpose cargo vessel Anetta is the second such purpose turnkey delivery of new build vessel for Western Baltija Shipbuilding. The vessel was constructed for the transportation of bulk and bale cargo, timber, grain, and steel coils.

Damen Opens JV Yard in Vietnam

On March 20, 2014, Vietnamese Minister of Transport Nguyen Hong Truong, cut the ribbon for the latest addition to Damen Shipyard Group’s portfolio. Damen Song Cam is a new yard, and is one of the largest in the group and represents Damen’s first formal Joint Venture yard in Vietnam. Damen said Song Cam is considered state-of-the-art, bringing a western shipyard designed to meet European health, safety and environmental standards into a Vietnamese environment. The yard will produce around 40 ships per year in phase one.

Damen Song Cam, a brand new yard, is one of the largest in the group and represents Damen’s first formal Joint Venture yard in Vietnam. Damen said Song Cam is considered state-of-the-art, bringing a western shipyard designed to meet European health, safety and environmental standards into a Vietnamese environment. The yard will produce around 40 ships annually in the first phase.

Feadship Launches First Superyacht for Mainland China

Holland's Feadship launches the 44.65-metre 'Blue Sky' in a ceremony combining the Chinese & Dutch maritime cultures. Feadship say that this is the first superyacht to be built by a Western shipyard for a client in mainland China. The owner sent his personal representative to accept delivery of the new megayacht that comes with her own helicopter deck and dedicated karaoke and Mah-jong rooms. The twin-screw Blue Sky powered by two MTU 12V2000M70 – 788 main engines, has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with an exterior styling developed by Feadship and Sinot Yacht Design.

Feedship Sells Superyacht to China

Following a recent tour of the Far East by the award-winning Feadship Helix, a Chinese client requested a similar-sized vessel that would also include a helicopter deck. Feadship immediately designed and engineered this option and presented it for approval in a timely manner. Construction is now commencing to ensure the delivery before the Chinese New Year in 2013. "We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring the unique Feadship style of yachting to this upcoming market," comments marketing manager Francis Vermeer.

JSC Vakaru Laivu Statykla Finishes Ferry Hull

JSC Vakaru Laivu Statykla, of Western Shipyard, finished the building of passenger and car ferry hull. The hull of 106 m of length and 17,2 m of width was launched on January 6. The value of works ordered by the Norwegian company Fiskerstrand Verft AS is 3,5 million Euros. About 200 workers participated in the works of this project that lasted almost seven months, 1350 tonnes of steel was used. There will be 389 places for passengers and 118 for cars in the ferry. Western Shipyard Turnover Increases

Western Shipyard, a Lithuania-based ship building, ship repair and metal treatment company, is further increasing its turnover. During the first nine months of 2005, the company’s turnover amounted to $42.3 million. In comparison with the same period of last year, the company’s turnover has grown by 34 percent.
