Five Iran-related Oil Tankers Lose Their Flags Following US Sanctions

BV Performs Remote Survey for Harbor Tug in Singapore

Bureau Veritas Marine Singapore (BV), in collaboration with PSA Marine,  completed a remote marine survey for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual fuel harbor tug, PSA Aspen. Offshore Wind: Good Supply, Growing Demand

Essberger Tankers Sign Deal with GAC

Europe’s chemical tanker operator Essberger Tankers has entrusted its ship agency requirements to Gulf Agency Company (GAC) companies in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.Under the agreement, GAC will handle an estimated 600-800 port calls a year for Essberger Tankers’ fleet of vessels carrying a wide range of high-grade chemicals.The deal comes after more than 20 years of successfully managing Essberger’s port calls in Finland. Maersk Drilling Bags Contract with Tullow Ghana

Maersk Drilling has been awarded a four year contract for the deep-water drillship Maersk Venturer by Tullow Ghana Ltd. The contract, which was signed December 2017, is expected to commence in February 2018 and covers development drilling on the Jubilee and TEN fields offshore Ghana. Maersk Venturer is currently in transit for the job offshore Ghana thereby further strengthening Maersk Drilling’s presence in the region. ”I am very pleased that Maersk Drilling will be mobilising another deepwater rig for this significant job in a strategically important region. ESG Sees Green With its Tier IV Thunderbolt Design

Eastern Shipbuilding’s forward-thinking inland towboat design now features CAT Tier 4 propulsion and aftertreatment. When Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) introduced its cutting edge 4,000 hp Thunderbolt inland towboat designed around twin azimuthing AAA Propulsion electric V-Pod propulsion and diesel-electric technology back in 2015, the approach was collaborative, with input from operators, naval architects (Gilbert Associates, Inc. (GAI)) and propulsion OEM’s. In selecting the podded propulsion system for inclusion on the design, Eastern met with two inland owner/operators that had Z-Drive towboats, and others that didn’t. Starting as far back as 2013, listening to each and noting their concerns, it was decided that the V-Pod was the best solution.

Huge Potential for LNG in Iberian Peninsula

With the global fuel sulphur limit of 0.5% entering into force in 2020, the interest towards LNG as a marine fuel is increasing. One of the main obstacles to the accelerated uptake of LNG, however, is the uncertainty regarding future market volumes for LNG. DNV GL has addressed this issue in a recent market study on the future LNG market in the Iberian Peninsula, as part of driving the development of an EU-wide network of LNG refuelling points. DNV GL conducted the market study on behalf of the six-year CORE LNGas hive project1, which aims to provide an investment plan for LNG fuelling in Spain and Portugal. The 33 million Euro project is coordinated by Enagas, and co-funded by the European Commission.

DNV GL Debuts Tool to Support Wider Adoption of LNG as Fuel

European Autumn Gas Conference, The Hague: Greater use of LNG as fuel would reduce global emissions of greenhouse gases, but barriers remain to its widespread adoption. One challenge is the varying compositions of LNG fuel globally, which can lead to engine damage and failure. DNV GL has now addressed this by developing a new online PKI Methane Number Calculator1 to match fuel quality with an engine’s requirements, and which can also support the development of an international standard. The PKI Methane Number Calculator can be applied to a wide range of engine types and used across the entire supply chain by engine manufacturers, ship and truck owners, traders, as well as international policy makers on LNG.

Pacific International Lines Chose HAROPA

Since June 2016, the Singaporean shipping line Pacific International Lines (PIL) has marketed a weekly containerised service (20’/40’/40’HC and reefer) from HAROPA - Port of Le Havre and bound for the South Pacific area. The service notably makes stops in Australia, New Zealand, Papua-New-Guinea, the Vanuatu archipelago, the Guam, Fiji, Hawaii, Wallis and Futuna, Tonga, Samoa and Marshall islands. “For the last 50 years, Pacific International Lines have developed a wide network, especially in Asia and Oceania, Christophe Buisson, managing director of SEALOGIS group, stated. Suspected Migrant Smugglers Arrested

German police arrested three men on Wednesday suspected of belonging to an organised criminal group that smuggles people from Africa to the European Union. Around 7,000 migrants, most from Africa, were rescued from boats in the Mediterranean last weekend and around 900 drowned last month on a boat heading to Italy - all victims of people-smuggling operations. Other migrants endure dangers of another kind, smuggled over land routes via the Balkans. Cologne police said they searched properties in the states of North-Rhine Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein in the early hours of Wednesday morning and detained one 22-year-old man and two other males aged 26.
