Total announced that its subsidiary, TOTAL E&P USA, INC., has entered into an agreement to capture seven prospects operated by CHEVRON U.S.A. INC. in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The agreement covers 16 blocks. The associated prospects are located in two promising plays and areas of the GoM: Wilcox in Central GoM next to the Anchor discovery, and Norphlet in Eastern GoM nearby to the Appomattox discovery. Chevron Corporation announced an oil discovery at the Anchor prospect in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Anchor is Chevron’s second discovery in the deepwater Gulf in less than a year. “The Anchor discovery, along with the previously announced Guadalupe discovery, are significant finds for us in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. We had one of our best years with the drill bit in 2014, reporting more than 30 discoveries worldwide and adding an estimated one billion barrels of new resources to our holdings,” said Jay Johnson, senior vice president, Upstream, Chevron Corporation.

The Port of Cleveland’s Board of Directors voted today to provide up to $161 million to support the combined refinancing of four previous economic development projects, as well as approved the acceptance of a Homeland Security grant. Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group (B&W TSG) continues to follow direction from the U.S. Department of Energy at project sites where B&W TSG has a presence. Many of the sites at which we have management and operating contracts or environmental management contracts have seen activities curtailed and are preparing for furloughs, which will be occurring over the next two weeks if the government shutdown is not ended. If the shutdown continues into November, it could begin to have a modest adverse impact on B&W TSG segment operating income.

The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) said that its subsidiary Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc. (NFS) has been awarded a $114.7 million contract for the manufacture and delivery of fuel and support activities for the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. "Support of our nation's naval fuel program is an important part of B&W's diverse business portfolio," said Joseph G. Henry, President of NFS. "Manufacture of naval nuclear fuel is a process developed by and unique to NFS. We are pleased with the continuation of our agreement with the U.S. NFS manufactures nuclear fuel for the U.S. Navy's fleet of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines. NFS also processes highly enriched uranium in a Category 1 secured facility, which is licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The Navy welcomed guided-missile destroyer USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110) into the fleet during a commissioning ceremony in Mobile, Ala., June 4. The newest Arleigh Burke-class ship, the 60th of its class, is named in honor of the late Vice Adm. William P. Lawrence, a highly-decorated Naval aviator and Vietname prisoner of war. Lawrence began his naval career as an academic scholar and athlete at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he later returned to occupy the Chair of Naval Leadership after retiring from active duty, Feb. 1, 1986.

Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Aegis guided missile destroyer William P. Lawrence (DDG 110) successfully completed her combined super trial last week in the Gulf of Mexico. The successful sea trial paved the way for delivery to the Navy in the next six weeks. The company's 28th destroyer is being built in Pascagoula. "I'd like to congratulate the team for a very successful acceptance trial," said U.S. Navy Capt. Bill Galinis, supervisor of shipbuilding, Gulf Coast.

This was the final ocean station patrolled by a Coast Guard cutter. 1994-The crew of Coast Guard LORAN Station Marcus Island decommissioned their station and turned it over to the Japanese Maritime Safety Agency.

J. Ray McDermott, S.A. (J. Ray) announced the appointment of Stephen M. Johnson as President and Chief Executive Officer of J. Ray, effective January 1, 2010. Johnson is the current President and Chief Operating Officer of McDermott International, Inc. (McDermott), J. Ray’s parent company. He succeeds Robert A. Deason, who, as previously announced, will retire at the end of the year. Separately, McDermott announced that it plans to separate its operating subsidiaries, The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) and J. Ray, into two independent, publicly traded companies.

The American Shipbuilding Association (ASA) announced the election of four new Partner Advisory Council officers for calendar years 2009 and 2010. They were elected by their fellow ASA members in the fall of 2008. USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 14 departed San Diego Nov. 27 to complete Tailored Ship's Training Assessment (TSTA), an intense training period designed to prepare the ship and embarked air wing for prompt and sustained combat operations at sea. TSTA and the upcoming Final Evaluation Problem (FEP) are conducted by Afloat Training Group Pacific, and are designed to test a ship's ability to conduct multiple simultaneous combat missions and survive complex casualty situations under stressful conditions. Rear Adm. Phil Wisecup, commander of the Ronald Reagan Strike Group, stressed to the officers and crew of Ronald Reagan and CVW 14 that the preparation for future strike group missions starts during TSTA/FEP.

McDermott International, Inc. reported net income of $19.3 million on revenues of $591.2 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2001. Earnings were up 245 percent as compared to the same quarter last year, when net income was $5.6 million. Revenues increased by more than 50 percent over the third quarter last year, when revenues were $391.0 million. Operating income was $33.6 million in the third quarter of 2001, compared to $12.7 million a year ago, a 165 percent increase quarter over quarter. For the first nine months of 2001, McDermott reported revenues of $1.52 billion and net income of $22.9 million, or $0.37 a diluted share. These results compare with revenues of $1.47 billion and net income of $3.4 million, or $0.06 a diluted share, in the same period a year ago.

In a ruling issued January 4, 2002, Judge Sarah S. Vance of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana granted Babcock & Wilcox's and McDermott International, Inc.'s (NYSE: MDR) motions for summary judgement against a group of London underwriters and dismissed the declaratory judgment action filed by the insurers. The underwriters had sought to annul an agreement which acknowledges coverage for B&W's asbestos exposure and sets forth the agreements of the insurers to pay claims within that coverage. In her ruling, Judge Vance concluded that the underwriters' claims lacked a factual or legal basis. The agreement with the underwriters went into effect in April 1990…

Ecuador's Galapagos islands should make a full recovery from the oil spill that tarnished its sandy shores, a sign of hope for the hundreds of unique species there that inspired British naturalist Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection, scientists said. With ecologists scouring the archipelago's surface for animals affected by the 160,000 gallon spill, the question remained as to what would happen to thousands of ocean critters that form the basis of Galapagos' ecosystem, nourishing the sea lions, iguanas and blue-footed boobies that have made the Ecuadorean islands famous worldwide.
