Gibraltar ship repair and conversion yard Gibdock said it recently hosted the Vulica Shipping Company-owned bulk carrier Donald M James for a 30-day project which brought a first opportunity to work with a new type of coating from GIT Coatings (Graphite Innovation & Technologies Inc).The 229-eterm-long ship entered Gibdockā€™s No.1 Dock for extensive works, including renewal to cargo holds, piping, thrusters, tail shafts and rudders. WSM, Affinity Shipping Team on Emission Reporting

Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) and Affinity Shipping signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish an independent company that will provide compliance services related to the EU ETS (European Union Emission Trading System).When created, the companyā€™s offering is envisioned to be the first of its kind, offering a complete outsourcing service for shipping ETS management. The service integrates technical ship management and carbon allowance procurement to support shipowners, managers, and operators in the new era of emissions compliance.

Wilhelmsen Takes Over Management of HLS' New VLGC

Norwegian vessel operator Wilhelmsen Ship Management announced it has taken over management of the newbuild liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier HLS Blue Sapphire.The 86,000-cubic-meter-capacity very large gas carrier (VLGC) is the first managed by Wilhelmsen for new client Hyundai LNG Shipping of South Korea.The LPG dual fuel vessel was built at South Korea's Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Ltd.

Wilhelmsen Ship Management signed a deal to acquire a majority stake in Hamburg-based Ahrenkiel Tankers, resulting in Wilhelmsen Ship Management taking over the management of five tankers and gaining 80% ownership of Ahrenkiel Tankers. The remaining 20% is held by existing owners MPC Capital Group. Ahrenkiel Tankers will be rebranded as Barber Ship Management.It marks the first step by Wilhelmsen Ship Management after its earlier decision to re-enter the tanker segment following a decade-long absenceā€¦

The Crew Change Crisis is Getting Worse

The crew change crisis that has been plaguing the maritime industry for more than a year and a half is raging on and only getting worse, data from 10 of the world's top ship managers suggests.The number of seafarers onboard vessels beyond the expiry of their contract has continued rising from 7.2% to 8.8% in the last month, and the number of seafarers onboard vessels for over 11 months has risen from 0.4% to 1%, according to the latest monthly Neptune Declaration Crew Change Indicator.Theā€¦

Wilhelmsen Ship Management Acquires 50% Stake in Ahrenkiel Steamship

Wilhelmsen Ship Management, a provider of third-party ship management services headquartered in Singapore, and the Hamburg-based asset and investment manager MPC Capital AG have agreed to combine their activities in the technical management of containerships. To this end, Wilhelmsen Ship Management acquires a 50% stake in Ahrenkiel Steamship GmbH & Co KG, the technical containership manager within the MPC Capital Group.The joint venture will operate under the brand Wilhelmsen Ahrenkiel Ship Management.

Wilhelmsenā€™s Marine Products division signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Singapore-based drone delivery startup F-drones, for last mile delivery of its 3D printed spare parts.As the only drone delivery provider currently authorized by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) to execute drone deliveries beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) to vessels at anchorage, the agreement with F-drones enables Wilhelmsen to broaden the scope of its exclusive on-demand additive manufacturing serviceā€¦

Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) is crowdfunding to support Mission to Seafarers (MtS), one of the largest maritime charities serving merchant crews around the world in addressing the hardships faced by the affected seafarers.The COVID-19 pandemic has caused major disruption on crew change operations. The fallout effect of this has impacted approximately 150,000 seafarers onboard unable to be signed off and another 150,000 seafarers onshore unable to sign on. This disruption has impacted the affected seafarersā€™ welfare.

Wilhelmsen Delivers 3D Printed Parts to Berge Bulk

Norway-based global maritime industry group Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA  announced that Bergeā€ÆMafadi, a Berge Bulk vessel has received the worldā€™s first commercial delivery of 3d printed scupper plugs, as part of Wilhelmsenā€™s Early Adopter Program.According to a press release, the program, where customers have exclusive access to on-demand additive manufacturing was launched by Wilhelmsenā€™s Marine Products division in December 2019. Customers include Berge Bulk, Carnival Maritime, Thome Ship Management, OSM Maritime Group, Executive Ship Management and Wilhelmsen Ship Management.ā€œWe are very excited with this milestone - completing one of the first commercial deliveries of 3D printed parts in the maritime industryā€¦

Wilhelmsen Launches 3D Printed Spares EAP

Wilhelmsen has launched an early adopter program for 3D printed marine spare parts. A strategic move by the six early adopters, Carnival Maritime, Thome Ship Management, OSM Maritime Group, Berge Bulk, Executive Ship Management and Wilhelmsen Ship Management have all signed up with Wilhelmsenā€™s Marine Products division to begin utilizing on-demand additive manufacturing.Wilhelmsen, in cooperation with Ivaldi Group, will provide spare parts on demand to the selected six customersā€™ vessels around the globe.

Wilhelmsen Bags Stove Shipping Contract

Norway-based Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) announced that we have been selected as the technical manager for the Stove Shipping AS (Stove) vessels, Stove Friend and Stove Tide.The two supramaxes are the newest addition to the Stove fleet built in 2016 by Tsuneishi shipbuilding Co, Ltd. 3 Shippers Recognized for Safety Awareness

Three shipowners and ship-management companies  were  recognized by Japanese logistic major Nippon Yusen (NYK) for their original and effective implementation of measures to stimulate further safety awareness and encourage a sense of ownership among crew members.NYK held a ā€œBrush Up on Safety Awarenessā€ competition on July 2 and Taiheiyo Kisen Kaisha Ltd., Wilhelmsen Ship Management Sdn. NorShipping 2019: A ā€œKoseligā€ Event

"Koselig" is a Norwegian adjective used to describe situations that give a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation. The NorShipping exhibition and conference, one of the largest in northern Europe, could definitely be described as koselig. Occurring in Oslo, Norway between June 4-7, 2019, the conference featured close to 1,000 exhibitors from around the world. With the prominently featured Blue Economy Hall, terms such as marine sustainability and environmental ocean awareness held the center stage at a number of the events. In true Norwegian fashion, most of the major press announcements were delivered in semi-intimate gathers with copious amounts coffee by maritime CEOs and VPs who enjoyed being called by their first names.

NorSea Wind Appoints Pedersen CEO

NorSea Wind, part of the Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) Group, has named Anders Peter Pedersen as its new chief executive officer (CEO). Pedersen  has extensive experience from the green energy sector. A lot has happened in the harbor since Anders Peter Pedersen as 17-year-old started his career on his first ship in Esbjerg, but now the circle is in many ways closed for the new CEO of NorSea Wind.He is practically back at the same harbor quay, where he boarded MS Stafford in the fall of 1982, but now it is as captain of NorSea Wind, and the view goes far from the bridge. Wilhelmsen Reduces Plastic Usage Onboard

Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM), a global maritime industry group, headquartered in Lysaker, Norway, is taking measures to reduce plastic waste from its ships enforcing new criteria for its vendors in its selection process,  as part of their commitment to make maritime trade sustainable."Vendors supplying spare parts, stores and consumables will be required to demonstrate that they have a viable plan to reduce plastic usage on the products delivered to us. Wilhelmsen in Jubilee Celebration

Wilhelmsen Ship Management  has recently hosted a jubilee celebration with loyal customers in Tokyo, where it all began.On 3 April 2019, more than 50 invited guests and media friends attended an exclusive celebration marking Wilhelmsen Ship Management's 25 years in the gas segment at Ascott Marunochi Tokyo.The guests consist of long-time customers, some who have been with us when we began our gas journey in 1994. They expressed their congratulations and were overjoyed to be part of our celebrations.A special award ceremony was held to show appreciation to two veteran crew who have been sailing for a long 25 years on gas vessels managed by Wilhelmsen Ship Management. The crews' wives were invited to witness the ceremony, making it an even more memorable ocassion.
