Adm. Natter to Pass Command of U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Atlantic Fleet

Mississippi Governor to Speak at Christening

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour will join Navy Adm. William J. Fallon, commander, U.S. Fleet Forces command as principal speakers for the christening of the Aegis-guided missile destroyer Halsey (DDG 97). Ship Systems on Saturday, January 17. Other ceremony participants will include Navy Rear Adm. Charles S. Hamilton, program executive officer for ships; Navy Capt. Bella, supervisor of shipbuilding, conversion and repair, Gulf Coast; Dr. Philip A. Operations. with the name "Halsey," to honor Fleet Adm. New Aegis Destroyer Christened

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour cheers as ship sponsors Heidi Cooke Halsey, Alice Spruance Talbot and Anne Halsey-Smith simultaneously smash ceremonial bottles of champagne across the bow of the Aegis guided missile destroyer DDG 97, officially christening the ship "Halsey." Halsey honors the sponsors' grandfather, Fleet Adm. William Frederick "Bull" Halsey Jr., a World War I and World War II Naval hero. More than 1,000 guests attended the Saturday, January 17, 2004 christening of the Aegis guided missile destroyer Halsey (DDG 97) at Northrop Grumman Corporation's Ship Systems sector.

U.S. Pacific Fleet Welcomes New Commander

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- Adm. Gary Roughead assumed command over the Navy’s largest area of responsibility as Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, when he relieved Adm. Walter F. Doran July 8 in front of the USS Missouri Memorial on Ford Island. Military and civilian guests gathered not only to say goodbye to Doran but also to welcome Roughead. Speakers included Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Vern Clark and Commander, U.S. Pacific Command Adm. William J. Fallon. Attending dignitaries included various flag and general officers currently serving in the Pacific region, in addition to former Pacific Command and Pacific Fleet commanders. Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle, U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka, (D-Hawaii), and civilian and military dignitaries from several Asian and Pacific nations also were present.

Adm. Fallon Relinquishes Helm at U.S. Pacific Command

From U.S. Admiral William J. Fallon, Commander, U.S. Pacific Command relinquished command to Air Force Lt. Gen. Daniel P. Leaf, Deputy Commander of U.S. Pacific Command, during a ceremony at Camp H.M. Smith March 12. Fallon departs U.S. Pacific Command, after serving two years with distinction, to assume the duties as the commander of U.S. Central Command, in Tampa, Fla. Leaf will serve as acting commander until a new U.S. Pacific Command commander is confirmed by the U.S. Senate and assumes command. President George W. Bush has nominated Admiral Timothy J. Keating, Commander, U.S. Northern Command, for appointment as Commander, U.S. Pacific Command. U.S. Pacific Command is the headquarters responsible for all American air, ground and maritime military forces in the Asia-Pacific region.

ASNE Day to Feature Timely Technical Papers, Informative Exhibits

The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) annual exhibition, conference, and annual meeting, ASNE Day 2001, is set for April 30 - May 1, 2001 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Va.
