New Loading Equipment Delivered to Port Milwaukee

New loading equipment was recently delivered to Port Milwaukee for The DeLong Co., Inc. agricultural maritime export facility.The Made in America ship loader traveled more than 1,500 miles by barge from New Orleans, up the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers to Jones Island. This equipment is capable of loading 40,000 bushel/1100 ton per hour onto both vessels and barges.The ship loader, which is currently being installed on Jones Island, will serve as the heart of DeLong’s loading…

U.S. Ports See Slower Beginning to Shipping Season

While U.S. ports have been busy, overall the beginning of the shipping season has been slower than anticipated. “Although the overall cargo numbers remain down when compared to the same time frame last year, in June we were above the five-year average,” said Betty Sutton, Administrator of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation. “Imports arriving in the Great Lakes Seaway System kept longshoremen busy during the month of June. About 45 ships arrived from 19 different countries with high value cargo like windmill components, machinery, aluminum ingots, steel, sugar, and general cargo.

Tonnage Numbers Steady at U.S. Ports

U.S. ports continued to post positive tonnage numbers in October. The Seaway’s year-to-date total cargo shipments from March 22 to October 31 were 29 million metric tons, up 2 percent from the same period last year. “With just two months left in the 2011 navigation season, the Seaway is on track to meet its projected seven percent improvement over last year’s tonnage performance,” says Rebecca Spruill, Director of Trade Development for the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.

Burger Boat Gets $2.9m Assist

Governor Jim Doyle announced a $2,880,128 project that will support improvements to the Burger Boat Company’s facility at the . The award is positioned to spur economic growth in the city of and the surrounding area. “The Burger Boat Company is a valued partner in ’s economy, and a valued part of ’s history,” Governor Doyle said. Burger Boat Company will receive $2,304,102 for the project from the state’s Harbor Assistance Program, and the company will provide the required 20 percent match, $576,026.
