ZF Marine Names Fienco Commercial Thrusters Manager

ZF Marine has appointed Walter Fienco to the position of Product Line Manager, Commercial Thrusters. In this role, Walter will lead ZF Marine’s commercial thruster product sales across the North and Central American and Caribbean markets.Fienco brings nearly 15 years of commercial thruster product experience to the position. During his tenure at ZF Marine, he managed/led the company’s engineering, technical support and aftermarket teams to successfully commission customer vessels. ZF Marine Opens New North America Commercial Craft Center of Competence

The new facility has dedicated transmission and thruster repair facilities, and larger warehouse and training areas. ZF Marine has a long standing presence in Louisiana, opening their first location in the city of St. Rose in 1996. The ever increasing customer base combined with the addition of the commercial thruster product line in 2009 resulted in the need to create a larger physical presence in the region. A comprehensive search of the region resulted in ZF finding a new home at 677 Time Saver Avenue in Elmwood, Louisiana. ZF Marine’s new facility is three times the size of its previous location. The new facility not only houses dedicated transmission and thruster repair facilities, but also a significantly larger warehouse area.

ZF Marine LLC takes delivery of ZF POD 4000 demonstration vessel

50 foot Viking Sportfishing yacht

ZF Marine has taken delivery of a new 50 foot Viking Sportfishing yacht. The purpose of this vessel will be to demonstrate the ZF POD 4000 propulsion system. The vessel is equipped with two Caterpillar C18 engines each producing 1150 bhp. These engines are mated to ZF 500 series transmissions, which are connected to the POD units via Centa carbon fiber driveshafts. The ZF POD 4000 drives are the highest rated propulsion pods in the market today, rated to 1200 bhp. Control for the ZF POD 4000 comes from ZF Marine’s well established SmartCommand control system…

ZF Marine Mourns the Passing of Tom Katica

It is with sadness that the ZF Marine Group recognizes the passing of Thomas P. “Tom” Katica, our colleague and long time Account Manager for the Western Region. On July 8, 2010, after a two year battle with cancer, Tom finally succumbed peacefully in his home on Whidbey Island, surrounded by family. “This is a great loss, not only for ZF Marine, but the marine industry as a whole,” said Wolfgang Schmid, President and General Manager, ZF Marine LLC. “Tom’s passion for our business and this industry was clearly evident every single day. His warm smile greeted everyone he met, and his infectious personality created many life-long friendships.
