Water Monitoring to Continue at Western Gulf Ports

A water monitoring network that helps keep port traffic moving is the responsibility of the Conrad Blucher Institute (CBI) for Surveying and Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. CBI, in partnership with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts, has received the federal contract from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to continue to operate and maintain the water level and ocean monitoring network along the Western Gulf of Mexico. CBI, as a subcontractor, will operate in the Houston/Galveston and Lake Charles, La.

Woods Hole Group Clinches Multi-Year O&M Contract

Woods Hole Group will be working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services for the operation and maintenance of Physical Oceanographic Real Time System along the East Coast of the USA, and along the Gulf of Mexico coast in Texas and Louisiana. Brazil Navy expands network to 10 AXYS 3 Meter buoys

XYS Technologies Inc (AXYS) recently shipped two 3-Meter buoys for the Centro de Hidrografia da Marinha (CHM) of the Diretoria de Hidrografia e Navegacao (DHN) in Niteroi. The buoys will be added to the PNBOIA (GOOS-Brasil) buoy network, bringing the total number of 3-Meter buoys owned by the Navy to ten. The buoys will be deployed offshore in an effort to provide complete coverage of the Brazil coastline. They will be integrated using AXYS’ reliable WatchMan500 controller and various sensors to measure directional waves, currents, wind speed and direction, air pressure, air temperature, relative humidity and solar radiation. Real-time data will be sent to Brazil Navy officials via ARGOS and/or Inmarsat satellite telemetry.

PORTS System to be Installed in Jacksonville

Woods Hole Group will be working with the Jacksonville Marine Transportation Exchange (JMTX) for the installation, operations and maintenance of a large-scale Physical Oceanographic Real Time System (PORTS) in Jacksonville, Florida. NOAA PORTS is a network of sensors in ports and harbor providing access to information that improves maritime commerce and safety. Woods Hole Group Awarded BPTT Contract

Woods Hole Group, Inc. of Falmouth, Massachusetts has been contracted by BP Trinidad and Tobago, LLC (bpTT) to design, build and install a meteorological and oceanographic measurement system on the bpTT Cassia oil and gas production complex, offshore eastern Trinidad. Woods Hole Group, Inc. will provide system design, integration, installation, and real time data display along with monthly data monitoring and archiving during the 24-month project. Measurement of the predominant and spurious currents and waves along with their impact in this environment is important for the continued safe and efficient operation of bpTT’s production platforms off the east coast of Trinidad.

Markunas and Hays Join Woods Hole Group

Peter Markunas of Eastham and Beth Hays of Brewster have joined the Woods Hole Group as Coastal Engineer and Environmental Permitting Specialist, respectively. Markunas brings over 35 years of experience in engineering and environmental design, planning, and construction. For the past twenty years, Markunas has been a presence in New England, with specific focus on the lower Cape Cod region of Massachusetts. He has been heavily involved in the protection of shoreline properties, marina design and dredging of piers, boathouses, and boat ramps for municipalities and private interests.
