ICC Appoints Ximena Tapias Delporte as Vice-Chair

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ximena Tapias Delporte as Vice-Chair of the ICC Commission on Marketing and Advertising. Ms Tapias Delporte has been Executive Chairman of the Colombian Union of Advertising Companies (UCEP), a trade association representing advertising agencies and media in Colombia, for 22 years. She currently serves as President of the Commission of Advertising Self-Regulation of CONARP, the Colombian self-regulatory organization. In this capacity Ms Tapias Delporte is responsible for representing the rights and interests of the industry as well as well as engaging in the role of editor of the Colombian Code of Self-Regulation.

A Boon to Shipbuilding

Having detailed instructions for each shipbuilding task and precise sequencing of the workflow is creating efficiencies and reducing rework at shipyards on the east and west coasts of the US. The work packs that Senesco Marine’s tradesmen are working from provide instructions—including checks and balances and dimensions—for each step of the process. “The person cutting the angles to go on panels has a cut sheet with instructions on how to cut every angle,” explains Joe Bush, VP Operations at Senseco Marine in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

STCW Competency Assessment Workshop

The Ship Operations Cooperative Program (SOCP) invites maritime industry representatives to attend its Summer 2010 meeting to be held at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) in Linthicum Heights, Md., September 8-9, 2010. There are no membership requirements to attend. This public session will provide maritime professionals, labor unions, seafarers, training institutions and regulatory representatives the opportunity to participate in a working group format focusing on the development of performance measures which are used to assess mariner competencies listed in the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, as amended in 1995, and again in June 2010.

The Ship Operations Cooperative Program (SOCP) invites maritime industry representatives to attend and take part in our Summer 2010 meeting scheduled to be held September 8-9, 2010 at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) in Linthicum Heights, MD.
