Godmother Names Sanmar Harbor Tug After Her Son

Sanmar’s Altinova Shipyard held a christening ceremony last Saturday for a powerful new harbour tug destined to work for German operator H. Elliott Bay Design Group, Silverback Marine Design 'Truckable' Tugboat

Naval architecture and marine engineering firm Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) has partnered with Tacoma-based workboat builder  Silverback Marine to design what it says is a compact yet mighty tugboat that can be transported by truck over the road. The truckable tug has an overall length of 25' - 10 ⅞", a beam of 14' - 6" and a draft of 3' - 4". This vessel design offers a tug that can be easily transported to job sites with enough power and maneuverability to perform push-assists.

Silver Ships Wins $8.2 Million Order for Navy and Coast Guard Boats

Aluminum workboat builder Silver Ships, Inc. said it was awarded an $8.2 million delivery order as a result of being awarded a firm-fixed-price indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) single award contract by the Naval Sea Systems Command for the construction and delivery of up to 110 Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Surface Support Craft (SSC) and U.S. Coast Guard Special Purpose Craft, Law Enforcement (SPC-LE) vessels, in addition to other accessories, parts and training.

Mainstay Adds New Trolley Recovery System

Mainstay Marine Solutions, a workboat builder and servicing specialists in South West Wales, said it has completed an overhaul of its existing marine servicing facilities, nearly doubling its slipping capability from 350 tons to 650 tons with the introduction of a new trolley recovery system. Fabricated in-house, the trolleys will be capable of slipping 45m long vessels up to 650 tons with a maximum 12 meter beam and 4 meter draft directly into one of its undercover sheds. Crew Transfer Vessel Delivered to Targe Towing

Welsh workboat builder Mainstay Marine said it has delivered a newly built 15-meter crew transfer vessel to Scottish tug operator and owner Targe Towing. The Camarc designed vessel is constructed with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure. It sails at speeds in excess of 15 knots and has a bollard pull of 6 metric tons. Compliment is for two crew and 12 passengers. Targe Towing provides dedicated towage for north east Scotland ports including BP’s Hound Point Marine terminal on the Firth of Forth.

Concordia Baby to See Mother(ship) for the First Time

Concordia Baby, the latest vessel to be completed by specialist workboat builder Alnmaritec, is heading to the Falkland Islands to be installed onto the mother ship M/V Concordia Bay. Operated by Workboat Services Ltd., MV Concordia Bay provides service as a passenger and cargo ferry within the archipelago. A landing craft measuring 45.5m, she is able to lower her bow ramp on suitable beaches, however many of the islands are difficult to reach and therefore there is a requirement for a smaller craft…

Kvichak’s New Facility, Flashmark Tech

Kvichak Marine Industries, a Seattle workboat builder, was a recipient of an ARRA small shipyard grant awarded in August 2009. One of the improvements to Kvichak funded by this grant is a new state of the art cutting table and brake which the company has located into a newly leased facility located in the South Park area of Seattle. Flashmark Tech, a division of Kvichak Marine, is now in full production. This new facility has a 16-ft 325 ton 2 Axis CNC Press break and a 10-ft by 60-ft high speed router table with integrated Galvo laser marking system.

Polarcirkel Expands Design

Polarcirkel AS partnered with Nova Sea AS, Norway, to design and build a Cabin Workboat for transporting personnel out to fish farming feed barges, even in the harshest weather conditions. Designated the Polarcirkel 860 Cabin Workboat, MS Nova Polar is built to the standard 28 ft 3 inch Polarcirkel limit, with the 10 ft beam providing a great working deck and a huge cabin with lots of head room and all round visibility. Under the floor aft is a single Volvo Penta D6 series 5.5 liter diesel engine rated at 370 hp.
