Maersk: Too Early to Predict Financial Impact of Cyber Attack
Asia CEO said ports have resumed releasing cargo; will discuss settlement, liability issues with customers. Maersk said it was too early to predict the financial impact of last month's global Petya cyber attack that hit the shipping giant's computers and delayed cargoes, but added that normal operations had resumed at its ports. A.P. Moller-Maersk, Danish owner of the world's biggest container shipping line, operates 76 ports via its APM Terminal division and was one of the many firms hit by the ransomware virus along with Russia's Rosneft and advertising agency WPP. For the shipping sector, this was among the biggest-ever disruptions given Maersk handles one out of seven containers shipped globally.
Changes on BHP Billiton Board
BHP Billiton Chairman, Jac Nasser, today announced a number of changes to the BHP Billiton Board of Directors. Anita Frew has been appointed to the BHP Billiton Board as an independent Non-executive Director, effective as of 15 September 2015. Ms Frew has over 18 years’ experience as a director and chairman on public company boards across a range of global sectors, including chemicals, engineering and finance. She is currently Chairman Designate of Croda International Plc, the speciality chemicals group and Deputy Chairman of Lloyds Banking Group Plc. Egypt Completes New Waterway in Suez Canal
Egypt has completed dredging for the new shipping route in the Suez Canal, says the government sources. The mega national project ‘New Suez Canal’ is scheduled to be inaugurated on August 6. Egypt has invited all countries worldwide to take part in the inauguration ceremony of the New Suez Canal Project, slated for August 6, Foreign Minister Samih Shukri said. “The invitation was extended for all as this important project is linked with international trade,” Shukri said. This marks the dredging of a total of 250 million square metres and the digging of 70 million square metres in the expansion of the Ballah Bypass. The Bypass's width is now 312 metres, compared to the previous 61 metres.
Holland America Line Appoints Geivett as Director, Social Media
Holland America Line has hired Kathryn Geivett as director, social media. In this capacity Geivett’s primary responsibility will be to drive, plan and oversee the execution of strategic social media and digital initiatives for the cruise line. She will report to Mary Beth Wressell, vice president, marketing communications, for Holland America Line. “Social media is an important way we communicate with our fans, and we’re thrilled to have someone of Kathy’s caliber join the company to oversee all of our different engagement channels,” said Wressell. Geivett has more than 12 years of marketing and advertising experience with an emphasis on digital and social media. Prior to joining Holland America Line she was at Microsoft Corp.

WPP Rebuild Program Gives Engines New Life
Worldwide Power Products (WPP), a power-generation equipment provider to industrial and petroleum clients worldwide, today announced it is rebuilding Tier I engines to meet Tier II hazardous emissions standards, making them compliant with leading offshore certifications. WPP has already closed deals in Dubai and Singapore for these newly rebuilt engines and is offering them for sale globally. “ABS, one of the top offshore certification companies, will no longer certify new or rebuilt offshore rigs or vessels operating with Tier I engines,” said WPP VP of Sales and Engineering Dave Vennie.
