St Johns Bar Pilots Order New Launch from Gladding-Hearn

Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation, announced it has received an order from the St. Johns Bar Pilots for a new high-speed launch.The newbuild, to be based on the Somerset, Mass. shipbuilder's 40-foot Resilient Class pilot boat introduced in 2005, is scheduled to be delivered to the Florida-based pilots in mid-2024—the pilots’ fourth Gladding-Hearn pilot boat since 1962.Designed by Ray Hunt Design, the all-aluminum launch measures 35 feet overall. It has a 13-foot beam, including the foam collar, and a 3-foot draft.

Gladding-Hearn Delivers New Launch to Michigan Pilots

Somerset, Mass. shipbuilder Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation, said it has delivered by road transport a new pilot boat to the Lake Pilots in Port Huron, Mich. The Resilient Class high-speed launch Huron Pride is the pilots’ third boat built by the Somerset-Mass. shipyard since 1979.Designed by Ray Hunt Design, the jet-driven, all-aluminum launch measures 42.5 feet overall. It has a 14-foot beam and a shoal 2.5-foot draft. The deep-V hull features a steep 24-degree dead-rise at the transom that increases to a very fine entry forward.

Israeli-owned Cargo Ship Hit by Missile in Arabian Sea

A cargo ship owned by an Israeli company was damaged by a missile in the Arabian Sea on Thursday in what was suspected to be an Iranian attack, an Israeli security official said.The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the ship was on its way from Tanzania to India and was able to continue its voyage after the attack.The official did not provide further details.According to Israel's Ynet news website, the ship sailing under a Liberian flag did not sustain serious damage and Channel 12 news reported the ship is owned by XT Management, based in the port city of Haifa.Reuters could not reach officials at the company for comment.

Cyber Security Tests Performed on Zim Genova

Naval Dome said it has completed the pilot testing of its multi-layered cyber security system for Lloyd’s Register aboard XT Shipping’s Zim Genova. The 4,300 TEU containership was operational during the tests, which were supervised by the classification society and bridge systems provider Totem Plus. The pilot tests, carried out as part of the classification society’s initiative to develop cyber security guidelines, and the first of their kind on a vessel in transit, evaluated the Naval Dome system’s ability to defend ships against a variety of cyber-attacks.

Unique Piloting System for US East Coast’s Longest Pilotage Route

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation has supplied the Association of Maryland Pilots with SafePilot Portable Pilot Units (PPUs) and a Port System server solution to facilitate consistent, real-time information sharing between almost 70 pilots. The SafePilot system is part of Trelleborg’s Smarter Product Portfolio, which its marine systems operation is evolving to support the ‘Port of the Future’. The Association of Maryland Pilots serves the Chesapeake Bay, the longest pilotage route on the East Coast of the United States, with its nearly 200 miles of waters. The scale of the waters put particular demands on the operational battery time the piloting equipment requires.

The new four-person device was unveiled at Reflex Marine’s regional partner EnerMech’s fifth birthday party. MAN Propulsion to Power Seismic Vessel

MAN Diesel & Turbo recently signed a contract for the supply of 8L32/44CR B.2 engines as part of a complete propulsion package to power a seismic vessel ordered by GC Rieber Shipping of Norway. The contract contains an option for an extra vessel. Four of the engines, along with two two-speed Flender Twin-In/Single-Out reduction gears and MAN Alpha Twin Screw CP propellers in AHT nozzles, will power the vessel. The seismic vessel is graded as Ice Class 1A*, which provides a good basis for operating in Arctic areas.

Four of the engines, along with 2 × 2-speed Flender Twin-In/Single-Out reduction gears and MAN Alpha Twin Screw CP propellers in AHT nozzles, will power the vessel which is classed as Ice Class 1A*. The vessel design is an ST 324 XT from Skipsteknisk of Aalesund, Norway whose hull will be constructed in Poland with outfitting subsequently carried out at the Myklebust shipyard north of Aalesund.

UK Firm's ROV Expertise Recognised

On his visit to the company, UK Secretary of State for Energy applauded the subsea expertise of ROV service provider ROVOP. During the visit the Secretary of State described the company as ‘a leading specialist in its field’ and one which is ensuring that the country remains at the global vanguard of the energy industry. ROVOP is set to take delivery of its two new ROV systems within the next two months. The two new systems are a Schilling HD and a SAAB Seaeye Cougar XT, both adding numbers to vehicle types already within the fleet.

Kleven has signed a contract with GC Rieber Shipping for the building of an advanced seismic vessel. The vessel is of type ST 324 XT from Skipsteknisk, and is to be delivered from Myklebust Verft in March 2015. Contract value is around 700 million NOK and there is an option for a second vessel. The advanced seismic vessel will meet ice class ICE 1A*, providing a solid base for operations in Arctic areas. A unique competence in operations in harsh environments has always been RC Rieber Shipping’s trade mark.

Abu Dhabi-based, CCC (Underwater Engineering), saves on operational costs with Saab Seaeye Panther XT Plus ROV. He finds that 90 per cent of the tasks normally undertaken by CCC’s 150 HP hydraulic work-class ROVs is now possible with the Panther, bringing major savings in costs and logistics. He quotes the ease of moving a 14 ton system rather than one weighing 60 tons; or having a faster 12 hour set up, rather than taking four days; and providing just 150 kVA of power generation instead of 500 kVA. Adding that spares and repairs are also cheaper.

Forum to Provide Offshore Trenching System to Global Marine

Forum Energy Technologies contracts with Global Marine Systems to supply a PerryTM XT 600 Trenching System. The XT 600 Trenching System is scheduled for delivery in 2013. It will be installed in the Global Marine vessel the Cable Retriever, based in the Philippines, and will replace the T205 trencher that was previously supplied by Forum/Perry in 2000. The XT 600 Trenching System will be used to support Global Marine's subsea cable maintenance contracts in South East Asia and the Indian Ocean. The trenching system is to come complete with Launch & Recovery System and special tooling. The trencher provides three meter ROV burial capability on the ocean floor.
