Inside Ishin, the LNG-Fueled Tugboat

In May 2017, MOL decided to build an LNG-fueled tugboat that would be operated by Nihon Tug-Boat Co., Ltd. It was built by Kanagawa Dockyard Co., Ltd., has dual-fueled engines from Yanmar Co., Ltd., and runs on LNG supplied by Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. The LNG-fueled tugboat, called Ishin, was delivered in February of 2019, and was featured in the December 2019 edition of Maritime Reporter & Engineering News as a Great Ships of 2019.Ishin is Japan’s first tugboat built to conform to the International Code of Safety for Ships Using Gases or Other Low-flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code).

YANMAR Announces Key Appointments

YANMAR Marine International (YMI), supplier of engines and technology-driven marine propulsion systems to the leisure and light duty commercial markets, has announced key appointments.Following his work in various senior managerial positions in the company, Teruyuki Yamaoka is named the new Vice President YMI, while Floris Lettinga is promoted to Director Sales and Marketing to extend his 15 years within the marine department at YANMAR.Yamaoka brings extensive experience in production management and quality assurance, corporate brand building, strategic operations and planning to YMI.

YANMAR EVO//CENTER Opens in Georgia

National, state and local officials joined together with YANMAR America and its honored guests to officially open the YANMAR EVO//CENTER located at the corner of Highway 92 and Old Alabama Road in Acworth, Georgia. Situated on 50-plus acres of land in Cherokee County, the new 50,000 square foot facility opened on November 3, 2017 features six state-of-the-art product training labs with classroom and hands-on space, three classrooms, multiple meeting rooms, office space, a 250-seat auditorium, the EVO Commons dining area, concept lab, museum and outdoor product demonstration areas.

Marine Propulsion Market Poised for Growth -Report

The marine propulsion engine market was valued at $9 billion in 2015 and is projected to reach $12 billion by 2022, growing at a CAGR of 4.1 percent from 2016 to 2022, according to a new report published by Allied Market Research. Diesel propulsion system segment is expected to maintain its dominance throughout the forecast period. Asia-Pacific accounted for the highest share of 51 percent in 2015, and is anticipated to maintain this trend. Increase in production and sales of ships globally and rise in international seaborne trade drives the market growth.

CIMAC Announces its New Board

A new CIMAC Board is due to come into force at the completion of the CIMAC World Congress in Helsinki in June 2016 for the customary three-year tenure, 2016-2019. The new CIMAC Board will have Klaus Heim, Chief Technical Officer of OMT S.p.A as the new CIMAC President. Ilari Kallio, Vice President Research & Development, Wärtsilä is also new to the CIMAC Board where he will be taking up the role of Vice President Technical Program along with Marko Dekena, Executive Vice President, AVL LIST, who will continue in his role also as Vice President Technical Programme. Change of Management at Yanmar

Having reached the age of retirement, Geert Jan Mantel will resign from his position as President of Yanmar Europe B.V. as per June 30, 2014, a position he has occupied since April 1, 2002. He will simultaneously step down as Managing Director of the Yanmar Co. LTD Board of Directors in Osaka, Japan. He has served as a member of the Board since June 2009. Mantel will take the position as Corporate Advisor for the three newest 100% Yanmar owned subsidiaries in Europe, namely Yanmar Construction Equipment Europe S.A.S. of Saint-Dizier in France, Vetus B.V.

MOL to Test NOx-reducing SCR System

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. announced plans to install the Selective catalytic Reduction (SCR) system — jointly developed by MOL, Yanmar Co., Ltd. (President: Takehito Yamaoka), and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (President: Kensuke Namura) — on all three power generators of an MOL-operated oceangoing freighter for a demonstration test. This test demonstrates NOx denitration under the actual operation of freighter, to meet the Tier III NOx regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The SCR system received a statement of fact from ship classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) on July 1, verifying that it meets the NOx Tier III emission limit, and its superior denitration performance was confirmed.
